I hope even if Orville doesn't come back we get a resolution to the Kaylon conflict. Something more final than Yesterday's Orville.
I think by placing Isaac in the background the show demonstrated that he is effectively feared and/or ostracized by the crew without spending valuable screen time on him. I am sure that if the series does return we will see some more direct follow up in future episodes.Great season. Hoping for a 3rd one but I'm preparing for disappointment. One thing I disliked in the latter half of the season is the way Isaac virtually vanished after his betrayal. Nothing truly came of it in regards to his interactions with the crew. Nice to see Alara again. Please renew this show!
The Kaylon probably thought when the Orville started going down that Bortus would be killed in the crash, and in the event he wasn't, he'd die anyway alone on a lifeless planet.Which was magically intact and the Kaylon's for some reason left there but removed all live, include the fish, and traces of life.
I?m still troubled over why Young Kelly, returned from 7 years in the future, with full knowledge of Isaac being a mole and a recent, devastating attack by the Kaylons, did nothing to warn Union Command about it. Surely they have the tech to determine her truthfulness and not dismiss her claims as delusions.
So the galaxy fell because she didn't bother reporting this intel. That's not a little oops that can be overlooked (by us the viewers).![]()
Another thing to consider, even if Kelly did report it and the Union did listen and rejected the Kaylon's offer to send an ambassador to screen the Union, it really wouldn't accomplish anything. Since the Kaylon wouldn't know there's a Union officer with knowledge of their agenda from the future, they'd just view it as a supposedly all-welcoming Union comprised entirely of biologic life rejecting them out of hand for perhaps no real reason other than they aren't biological. This could convince them to go ahead with the genocide much earlier than planned, or they could decide to instead screen the Krill as potential allies. And I'm sure with such a powerful race extending the branch of friendship, the Krill would rush to their bibles looking for a loophole or other way to interpret the word of Avis that would allow them to accept the offer.I can only think of two explanations:
1) She tried, but nobody believed her. Everyone knows time travel is impossible; plus, Union leadership might have wanted to see the Kaylon as a potential ally against the Krill, and as we've already seen from their relationship with the Moclans, Union policy is driven by a fair amount of what Simon and Garfunkel would describe as "a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest." She may have tried, been brushed off, and realized that if she persisted, they STILL wouldn't believe her, and also her career would be toast and she wouldn't be in a position to act later on.
2) Although her beta-whatever deficiency kept Claire's memory wipe from working as intended, it did have SOME effect. Some information about the future stayed with her, and some was pushed beyond her ability to consciously remember. While she could remember the people she met and the fact that things didn't work out with Ed, the dinner where he told her the Kaylon story was not one of the memories she was able to access ... until the Kaylon attacked, at which point it started to feel naggingly familiar. There could be a whole interesting story in an on-the-run Kelly trying to find a hypnotist or alien shaman to help her recover the memory, or the feeling that things weren't right could have caused her to seek out Claire, who figured out how to unlock the memory.
I prefer the second one, but either seems plausible.
Yeah, that porn addict is going to spend 9 months under the sea listening to folk music.
Sing along!
"Under the seas! Under the seeeaaa! Baby it's better down where it's wetter, take it from meeeee!"
On second thought, that song needs visuals and context or it just comes across as dirty. ;-)
Off Topic - but there WAS a small flap about the shape of some of the buildings on early "Disney's The Little Mermaid" promotional posters back when that film was first released. My point...the double entendre was most likely intentional...Sing along!

I wouldn't read to much into that, I've seen people talk like that, only for the show to be canceled a few days later.I also listened to this really wonderful and very recent interview with Seth, and he sounds very upbeat, happy with the success and would love doing the show for years to come: https://awardschatter.simplecast.fm...m8VC3d60EUvxZXH6p36G-MmkrXFTroY8wGs-WXLpTb5RE
Yep, plus, it had occurred to me that he could have survived by eating random stuff from all over the ship - I was a little disappointed to hear that line about rations, honestly.I knew it would be Bortas! Not much of a guess, though -- he was the only one of the central cast we hadn't seen.
Okay.... I can kind of "buy" that the FTL drives in this universe work in a manner to "really" move an object FTL so that it can escape a black hole. Maybe. But the ship was able to withstand and tolerate the gravitational forces of being in the black hole (spaghettification, anyone?) either due to shield or construction technology but it couldn't survive at the bottom of the Mariana Trench?
They're nice, yes, but also... I found myself looking at her outfit once they arrived on the bridge of the Orville and wishing they had given her a chain with the symbol of the Union hanging from it to wear around her neck. "It is very cold in space."Lots of fun - a little Timeless-ish, a little DS9 mirror episode-ish, and lots of Adrianne's boobs. I love Adrianne's boobs.

Yeah, the switch-up here confused me, as well. From space, Earth is a sulken gray lump with no atmosphere. Once we see the shuttle go down to get to the Orville there's a beautiful clear day with some clouds and atmosphere and crisp blue water. Oops.
Wait, what? They went "just INSIDE the event horizon of the black hole"??? Sorry. They're toast. I think the writers meant to say "NEAR the event horizon", but even then they'd have a hard time escaping.
Perhaps I am mistaken, but if you can move and obtain information faster than the speed of light, haven't you effectively changed the definition of the event horizon?
