The Orville is Overrated Nostalgic Trek Fans

Not everyone has time to watch a lot of tv. Some people actually have lives. Whatever that is.

Honestly, if I only had an hour to watch TV in any given week, I wouldn't be watching The Orville or Discovery. Too many other shows that are available that use the current TV model to its fullest potential.

The Bachelor?

If I only had an hour, there would likely be a huge backlog of things to watch. Like Westworld, Counterpart, Lost in Space, The Handmaid's Tale, Bob's Burgers and so on.

So...not the Bachelor, then...

;)

I to have heard about these " lives" you speak of. Sounds kind of made up. I thought the purpose of human life was to complain about stuff on the internet. Just as our God, The Great Bird of the Galaxy decreed in the before time when computers were stationary and not connected to the outside world.

Did anyone see the Redlettermedia review of Discovery season one? I kind of agree with their sentiments that The Orville gives a more warm and fuzzy feeling but at the cost of feeling like I've seen it before (they noted a lot of Orville plots were recycled TOS/TNG eps) while Discovery not being the best Trek has to offer at least it feels like something new and different. I note that either feeling is neither good or bad it's just there are pros and cons to both approaches.

If it came down to only being able to watch one show (due to time constraints) it'd be The Expanse.:techman:

The Orville is a fine show. It feels very dated. If you want more 80s and 90s Trek with some FOX humor, this is it. The characters are really what make the show.

Discovery is like watching a mini movie every week. Even the shorts look like they have 10x the budget.

Horses for courses. Haven't seen Discovery yet and it'll be a while before we'll sign up to Netflix. Only have time for one subscription service and we're hooked on HBO. But currently The Orville is the only show I watch when it's broadcast rather than from a streaming service or DVR.

As I watched only episode 1 of season 1 on Sky and the comments around here seem quite positive on the whole, I'll give the series another go. It's not available on Netflix here so I've bought season 1 in HD to stream from amazon.co.uk for £4.99, which seems very reasonable for 12 episodes. I might watch season 2 in parallel on Sky as the first few episodes disappear from catchup in 2-3 weeks time.

One hour every week? I would spend that hour just to decide what to watch. :wtf:

It's not available on Netflix here
I'm assuming you're in the UK given your use of "£" and...umm...so am I, and I can definitely get it on Netflix. Just double checked to make sure I wasn't imagining things. I signed up to Netflix in the UK and have never accessed Netflix from outside the UK. So, I can't figure out why it wouldn't be available for you.

Nope, Discovery is available but The Orville doesn't show up in a search. Beats me what's going on if it really is available to you but not me.
