    I like the second approach that Kirk and company are forced to scramble a bit to try and rescue the newer crew. Due to the losses the old and new have to work together.

    it's revealed in the Christmas scene that picard's spouse is wesley
    that's why she didn't want the torpedoes disassembled. she already knew what was inside.
    give krall a understandable reasons for his actions, not just "crazy."
    better still, have them actually find god.
    or have kirk say "I'll do it in a week."

    skip ahead a single week and play the rest of the movie as seen.

    Tim Russ has a bit part as a human officer ship in "Generations," long before the character of Tuvok was thought up. But Tuvok served in Starfleet in this era, so I'd put Russ in Vulcan makeup for that cameo.

    I don't know about 'long' before. GENERATIONS was being filmed shortly before VOYAGER began production, so that series bible was already well underway.

    Yeah. Generations premiered on November 18, 1994 and Voyager premiered on January 16, 1995. Russ was likely auditioning for Tuvok around the same time he shot his bit part in Generations.
