This waiting is killing me. Just seeing that 13 second clip has me wanting to watch TNG again.

I think this glitch has served as a reality check for all those complaining that the studio is "only going half way" with this release.

Re-editing and finding all this raw footage is not easy. Forget about 16:9 and/or flashy cgi. If we can get all the shows released in proper HD quality with only a minimal amount of hitches, we should count our blessings and call it a day!

I'm amazed that the 13 secs was identified publicly so quickly. Always good to get an update, even when things aren't according to plan.

Unfortunate turn of events. Hopefully there's still time to search the archives and find it in time for that season's release.

LOL, yeah that would be nasty. Maybe it's still in the archives, but at the wrong place. But they will only find out about that if they actually dig through the entire thing.

I hope that's the case. I'm sure I could stand to watch the occasional upconverted scene but it would be nice if they could find all the required elements.

Agreed. I was very surprised that they announced it up front. Usually (most recently w/ the West Side Story BD), fans start posting after they discover errors or flaws, then the studio is harangued until they're forced to backpedal and agree to fix something and offer free exchanges.

How refreshing to see it's different this time.

While this is unfortunate, it's certainly not any sort of deal breaker unless CBS/Paramount find that original film is missing from half the episodes.

Credit to Paramount for fessing up so early on, although you really would like to think they'd have located the whole of the episode on the original film stock before issuing the original press release.

As others have said, I worry about just how much is either missing or will be found to have degraded to the point of unusability. That said, the original TOS episodes seemed to have been in perfectly good condition after 40+ years.

We must all remain positive, although I doubt this will be the only glitch given how long the road is until we reach All Good Things.

The TOS episodes were the masters, though, while the TNG masters were on videotape. Paramount would've made sure to take good care of the masters, but probably didn't apply the same care with extraneous material.

Also, sometimes older filmstock holds up better than newer stock. For a time in the 70's, there was a type of film that was very unstable, and in the late 90's studios started making DVD masters and discovered their negatives were fading away. The original Star Wars movies and the first two Godfather movies had this problem. It's not un-fixable, but you gotta throw some cash at it.

Didn't think of that. Sadly you've made a good point. It would be truly unfortunate if all the TNG film takes were considered surplus to requirements in terms of getting proper storage after they were transferred to video.

I dunno, I think the fact that they have enough footage to even make this HD version possible means they must have just dumped whatever they filmed that day in the can and sent it off to storage. Of course a few pieces get lost in the mix, but I think they have far more than they need in the first place to even get this thing going. It wouldn't surprise me if some previously undiscovered gags, outtakes and alternate/deleted scenes are found during this process.

Ya there has to be deleted scenes out there. Would be really cool if when they stumble onto them as they work on this project they include them as a bonus feature on the bluray sets!
