The new Batman Animated series

I've only read articles about it... I'm concerned its going to be embarrassingly juvenile. Hopefully that won't be the case! I certainly like the idea of seeing lots more animated DC heroes and villains.

I'm looking forward to seeing it as the art has a Dick Spring* quality to it. Further, after years of grim Batman, I'm ready for a throwback to the 50s Batman with more humor and adventure.

EDIT: Dick Sprang, of course.

It looks terrible. Batman with bras knuckles? Why not just give Superman a gun and get it over with.

I hope you mean brass knuckles. If that's the case, both of those things have happened before. Hell, Frank Miller even had Batman use KRYPTONITE KNUCKLES on Big Blue.

I haven't been too impressed with the commercials I've seen, but Cartoon Network has taken over my life lately, so I'll probably catch it at some point.

We've seen plenty of Batman in various animated forms over the years. What I'm more curious about in The Brave and the Bold is the other characters, including superheroes and villains that have never been depicted in animation before. In a way, this is a continuation of what The Batman was doing in its final season, where at least half the episodes teamed Batman up with other Justice Leaguers. Or maybe that was kind of a practice run for this show, loosely speaking.

^ I'm looking forward to it, as well. I saw the preview at Comic-con, and the creators said the Sprang-esque look is deliberate, as are homages to different versions we've seen over the years. They said even the opening credits will be familiar to a degree. One of the producers called it "Giving the 60s opening some balls."

Thanks for the reminder, i just programmed my VDR so it can recor it. I hope is good, although i like a darker Barman.

Who's excited to see the series debut on the 14th on cartoon network, friday night?

I am...BRAVE AND THE BOLD was one of my fav comics in the 60s-70s, when it was a BATMAN team up mag...my four year old son is big time into DC comics. It looks like it is aimed at the younger crowd, and thats cool. Just like the JUSTICE LEAGUE comic that is made for kids, I like these kinds of shows. The big heady stuff I have never cared for..give me some heros and action and some fun..and I'm there..

OH SHIT DC..why did you HAVE to axe JLU????????? I so MISS that show...

DC didn't really have anything to do with it.

yeah..I know..but still..WB owns DC...WB owns Cartoon Network...So it all comes back to WB..bastards!!!

That's not accurate. DC Comics is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc., which is in turn a subsidiary of Time Warner, Inc. Cartoon Network is owned by Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., which is a semi-autonomous subsidiary of Time Warner. So WB doesn't own Cartoon Network; it's owned by the conglomerate that owns the conglomerate that owns Cartoon Network. WB doesn't have direct control over CN, and DC very definitely doesn't. They're corporate first cousins.

But despite that, they're still separate companies with separate budgets, separate decision-making structures, separate priorities, etc. They don't have the ability or the right to tell each other what to do. What's good for one company may be bad for the other, even if much of the profits ultimately go to the same media mogul. So they're not all acting as a single unit.

JLU was ended because the advertisers who fund CN's programming prefer cartoons that are geared toward younger viewers. DC and Warner Bros. had nothing to do with the preferences of those advertisers.

Yeah, it does look kinda juvenile.

While I understand the artistic style, it still reminds me of those JL toys for younger kids made by Playskool. Still, I hope it's better than that god awful "The Batman".

Suffice to say? I just wish they'd do another show like that again...it is missed...
