The Muppets (2011)

Also, both 80's Robot and Walter will be solid additions to the Muppet gang... but I missed Rizzo!
Hey, yeah! Where the hell was Rizzo? I saw a bunch of rats at one point, but no Rizzo to be found.

Oh, and I loved Steve Whitmire as Kermit. The voices still don't sound quite right to me... but I think I'm beginning to let go of the original performers and to accept the new guys as the Muppets.

The thing I noticed about Kermit's voice in this movie is that he seemed kind of...melancholy? I think that's the word I want. He was a slightly defeated frog. I think it worked perfectly for the tone of this movie, but I hope he gets back to being more happy-go-lucky in future films.

Speaking of future films, I know it's not really in the Muppets style, but I would love to see a series of films in this "continuity," if you will. With Walter now a full-time Muppet, I think it would make sense to keep Mary and Gary around, too.

Just saw it with the family and we all absolutely loved it. At one point my 9 year old had to go to the bathroom, and when we walked out, he ran to the bathroom and back because he didn't want to miss anything.

I loved the whole thing, I even teared up when Kermit started playing Rainbow Connection.

There was so much heart and joy in this movie I'm curious to see what the future of the Muppets will be after this.

I really want to see how much money it makes. We had to wait an extra hour to see it because we got to the theater and the show was sold out! I haven't been to a sold out movie since the last Star Wars film.

This *** **** movie!

I am 30 years old. I sat in the theatre today with tears streaming down my face. Not from laughing, but honestly crying. This movie made me so happy. It was wonderful. I have never had such an experience at the movies.

I went to see this with my husband today. I had to do a lot of work to convince him to go, including reading him some posts from this board! The result? He was laughing louder and longer than anyone else in our theatre.

It was so great to see these characters again...I've still got a stupid, goofy grin on my face. :)

I've been doing youtube searches of random Muppet songs ever since seeing the new movie, and I have some to a conclusion: I am physically incapable of hearing "The Rainbow Connection" without tearing up.

^ Totally. Saying Goodbye does that to me, as well.

After seeing the film, I think a lot of the complaints by the old Muppet performers were way off the mark... esp. the complaint about Kermit living in a mansion. Once the explanation for that was revealed, I thought that was completely in character for both Kermit and Piggy and actually added a lot to both of them. I wonder if the person who voiced that complaint read the entire script.

I was pretty underwhelmed by Amy Adams' role the the film, though.

I'm sure this isn't the inclusion you guys were hoping for, but I think Rizzo did have a brief "cameo", if you could even call it that. I might be wrong, but in the Muppet Studio as they're zooming in from the rafters down to the hammocks for the nighttime discussion between Kermit and Fozzie, I'm pretty sure I saw Rizzo sleeping on one of the rafter boards. Like I said, it doesn't count for a whole heck of a lot, but I do believe he was "in" the movie.

Well, I hope Rizzo has a bigger part in the next one. And that cute little bunny guy. What's his name?

I was pretty underwhelmed by Amy Adams' role the the film, though.

I figured she would have a larger role, but I really enjoyed her for the the part she had. I was cracking up during her two songs.

Oh, I thought she did fine with the material she was given, and she had a few good scenes, I just didn't care much for her story-line.

I will say that I was surprised how much I liked the songs. I'm really not a big musical/ singing in movies fan, and when they came right out of the gates with "I've got everything that I need", I admittedly rolled my eyes a little bit, thought it was pretty corny, and wasn't sure how much singing there would actually be. But there ended up being a pretty good balance of songs, and I ended up enjoying them. I especially got a kick out of the "Muppet or a Man" song and the villian's song. Hell, I even enjoyed the last song.

My Dad died last September. The Muppets were his absolute most favorite thing in the whole world -- when my wife and I see this movie tomorrow, I have a feeling I'm going to be a goddamn mess.

When my father passed away last year, we played "The Rainbow Connection" at his memorial service.

Ooh, yeah, you probably will be.

See, that's the beauty of this whole thing -- you and I snark at each other all the time and never get along, but we can come together when it comes to The Muppets. :)

The Muppets bring people together. The whole theme of this new movie, which you will see, is that the world has grown too cynical for the Muppets' wholesome style of family entertainment. Seeing the theater completely packed, I am very happy to see that the Muppets are still relevant after all.

^ Very well said. I wish my brother wanted to see this but he's hated the Muppets ever since we were kids. He has Autism so it's always difficult to tell which film he will be interested in seeing and which he won't be. I will probably see this during the week with friends though.

I'll definitely agree with the bringing folks together part. My best friend and I went to it Thursday night.... now, she and I are about as far apart as you can be with movie tastes. She's into princesses, animated movies, Disney stuff and I'm more into action, sci-fi, and comedy. When we go to movies together, it is usually something one person really wants to see and the other person thinks they can tolerate as it is usually very difficult to find common movies that we are both enthused about. The next day I drove her to the airport, and for almost half of the two hour trip we were sitting there just throwing quotes back and forth from the movie. I've even had coworkers who I never imagined as Muppets fans saying that they are definitely looking forward to checking it out.

Jeeeezus. Delivering my Dad's eulogy in the church was hard enough -- if "The Rainbow Connection" had been played, I probably would have collapsed into a babbling mess. :p

(Which makes me re-think my will, which says that "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" is to be played as I get carried out by six of my friends and family.)
