Badass Digest has posted some interesting deleted scene/ original ending info!
Man, I hope we get alternate version of the film on DVD... this stuff sounds pretty good!
I think the theatrical ending works so much better. Thematically, it fits better. The Muppets have always been a bunch of losers, objectively speaking. But it doesn't matter; we love their felt asses anyway.
Do they get the theatre back or not? I almost wish they didn't answer that question in the credits, much less the more explicit ending proposed here. One of the main themes of the movie is the question of whether or not we've become so jaded and ironic that we even need simple, joyful stuff like The Muppets anymore. The movie says "yes, we totally do, and damn anyone who thinks otherwise." It's almost silly to focus on the theatre after all that. Kermit even says so.
The Muppets "win" because your ass is in a seat watching it. Also, because you're crying when they walk out on the street after that speech to thousands of adoring fans and swelling music.
Wait, that was just me? Nevermind.
