The double-twist in this one is sorta nice.

Yeah, the ending and ultimate reveal is a little schmaltzy, but everything leading to it, plus the overall mystery Riker has to face that we the audience don't know in advance, really helps. Indeed, many of the Romulan episodes in this one show a lot more guile loosely tie into the season finale, even if the great plan of Sela in "Redemption II" was utter cobblers.

It's akin to Flowers for Algernon, in but space, and I bet anyone under 45 has no clue about that novel, or film adaptation, on Staaaaaaaaaaaaar Trek The Next Generation, so there, HA!!!

 

[Bad Thoughts]

Savinig DIS: "Species Ten-C". Discovery was very inconsistent. While I welcomed the change in tone from the first season, it seemed like every season was something different. It seems like season 4 was intent on being visually compelling. I wasn't always a fan of the large screen they acted against, but this is a beautiful episode. It expands on the language barrier theme of previous Trek episodes, but plays into it more straight on. There is a poetry here that Star trek doesn't always achieve. My second favorite Discovery episode, and probably in my top fifty Trek episodes.

Agreed! They made such a big deal of it when he first appeared in "Scorpion", then only a single appearance after that? Seemed like a waste.

I don't think they needed to make him the focus of anymore episodes, but I really wish they had used him in that "Scorpion" way two or three more times, as an unusual sounding board to help the characters work out their problem of the week.

Speaking of courtrooms the Drumhead gets my next vote. A beautifully tense courtroom drama that twists you around until it unveils the real villain is paranoia. The loathesome behaviour of badmiral Satie eventually degrading to her breakdown as everyone leaves her alone. Gorgeous. That woman is horrible at the core and a true tour de force of acting brought that to life.
