Game The Most Disliked First Season Episode

No one is going to do it?

Si Vis Pacem… is an episode of DSC Season 1 I like. Learning more about Saru and his fear response, Saru and Michael going at it and a beautifully realised CGI jungle.

There! Done!

Ha, that's great. A 16 hour wait to then have two eliminations seconds apart.

But we have the records, @Seven of Five 's elimination wins by a hair!

And I gotta say, I am thrilled with "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum" as a winner, even though I actually think it's a better episode than "The War Within, The War Without."

BUT "Si Vis Pacem..." is not a good episode, and -- I don't know if anyone else remembers this -- in the press as season 1 Disco was rolling out, they could. not. shut. up. about this episode. Quote after quote from producers about what a timeless Trek classic it will be, the incredible emotional gut punch it packs, there's no way you won't cry, simply reading the script was an overwhelming experience, the writing was brilliant, on and on and on and on and on -- to then have it be this sloppy hour that is lazily structured and doesn't earn ANY of it's big moments or emotional swings.

I had such a clear "oh god! these writers are hacks!" realization watching it. For a show in trouble, there's nothing more important to righting the ship than being able to correctly diagnose the problem. If this kind of half-assed slapdash work would invite excessive overpraise from the creators [at the time] to the extent it did -- we are really in trouble!

So I kind of hold a grudge against "Si Vis Pacem" as the high-water mark for self-delusion on the part of the season 1 creatives, and am happy to add it to the pantheon of WinnerLoser's! (Later, no time to cut & paste now :bolian:)

I think I was a bit tired and confused last night as I thought it was over and thought no more of it.

I actually do remember the overhype of this episode.

I thought pretty much the same as you did, but in a small defense of the writers, this is something I have seen with a LOT of shows and movies. Seems to be a trend in the last decade or so, which is why I never bother to believe them anymore. I do wonder if it's mandated by studios and executives for writers and producers to be that way... wouldn't surprise me.

Best thing a producer/writer can say is this... "I think we did a great job with this one, but you guys judge for yourselves."

That's it. That's all you need. There is hype, but still allows people to judge for themselves.

I was actually betting on a couple others to win... I even thought a TAS one would simply because it seems not enough people have seen the show.

Frankly, I'm glad a DISCO one won.

It tends to be more interesting when it isn't focussing on whatever that season's enemy is. Though to be fair I mostly enjoyed season 4 despite the lack of standalone episodes.

No prior winners on this list, we haven't played it before.
