[Leandar]

(Scotty turns the viewer on, as we see an image of the Enterprise as we near and enter the bridge)

Spock: This is thirteen years ago. The Enterprise. And it's commander, Captain Christopher Pike.

 

[LeadHead]

Spock: (on screen) Definitely something out there Captain, headed this way.

 

[Leandar]

Kirk: Screen off. Chris, was that really you on the screen? (Pike beeps "yes") That's impossible. Mr. Spock, no vessel makes record tapes in that detail, that perfect. What were we watching?

 

[Adm_Hawthorne]

Spock: I cannot tell you at this time, sir.

 

[Leandar]

Mendez: Captain Pike, were any record tapes of this nature made during your voyage? (Pike beeps "no") (to Spock) The court is not obliged to view evidence without knowing it's source.

 

[Adm_Hawthorne]

Spock: Unless the court asks a prisoner why, Commodore. You did ask that question.

 

[Leandar]

Mendez: You mean I was maneuvered into asking. Your evidence is out of order.

 

[Adm_Hawthorne]

Kirk: I am forced to contest that, Commodore. I want to see more.

 

[Leandar]

Mendez: You have that right, Captain. But just because the prisoner is your first officer and your personal friend...

 

[Adm_Hawthorne]

Kirk: That has nothing to do with it.

 

[LeadHead]

Mendez: Very well, continue. Screen on.

 

[Leandar]

Kirk: Screen on, Mr. Scott.

 

[Adm_Hawthorne]

Number One [on screen]: No. It's something else. There's still something out there.

 

[Leandar]

Spock: As I stated, gentlemen, this was thirteen years ago. We were on routine patrol when the ship's sensors detected something ahead. At first we were not certain what it was.

 

[CoveTom]

TYLER (on screen): It's coming at the speed of light. Collision course.

 

[Leandar]

Tyler (cont.): Meteorite beam has not deflected it, Captain.

Number One: Evasive maneuvers, sir?

 

[CoveTom]

PIKE: Steady as we go.

 

[Adm_Hawthorne]

Comm Officer: It's a radio wave, sir. We're passing through an old-style distress signal.

 

[CoveTom]

PIKE: They were keyed to cause interference and attract attention this way.

 

[LeadHead]

Comm Officer: A ship in trouble making a forced landing, Sir. That's it. No other message.
