The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya S2

Man, what a game changer! The universe will never be the same, especially when it turned out that Haruhi and Kyon were actually the same person from parallel dimensions!!!!!

Hee.

Episode 7 Directions:
1. Open Mouth
2. Insert Gun Barrel
3. Pull Trigger
4. Repeat if Necessary

I never thought the day would come when I would call Haruhi crap, but that day has come. Presumably then there will actually be eight episodes of this to live up to the number in the title, so two more episodes of this pointless rubbish to go.

I don't know why, but I am still enjoying the joke. I think it's because it's an adaptation, so unlike the bullshitting of Lost of BSG, I know they're just playing with the form rather than dicking around because they need to fill 26 episodes.

I guess I need some kind of point to it beyond the playing with the form. I can't even really see it as playing with the form at this stage. It just sits there like a block of stone: lifeless, inert, going nowhere, achieving nothing but taking up space that could otherwise be occupied by something more interesting, such as a chocolate cake.

See, I enjoy plot as much as anyone else... and if I were a fan of Naruto or Dragon Ball or whatever, I'd consider these episodes the equivalent of the meaningless filler episodes that plague those series (and a lot of sports anime as well, to be honest). I mean, I wouldn't mind if this was finished in two episodes and they moved on to the next arc... but I just can't get over how much balls this takes.

It's almost on the scale of that "April Fools" episode back when South Park was extremely popular and everyone wanted to know who Cartman's father was... even though it didn't really matter.

They better put loop episodes 3 through 7 on a separate disc on the DVD box set so you can skip over the damn things when watching the episodes.

Can't argue with that. It's surely going to have repercussions. On that note...

I wonder how much this is going to cost in lost DVD sales. And are they going to charge full price for all the duplicate episodes? Obviously there will be people who buy them all, but surely there will be a financial price to pay for this stunt.

Which is good, hopefully Kadokawa notices and learns from their mistake. Like Firehawk i still sort of enjoy it on some level, but I would have MUCH rather had more stories. That said, I'm holding out hope that this isn't supposed to be a second season and just a directors cut of the first season and that there will be an announcement for Sighs and Vanishment at the end of the run

I think I would buy the DVD box set so I could use for something mindless to put on my Tv when doing housework.

I think this is proof that TV on DVD is fundamentally different form TV on broadcast, simply because people would skip the "unnecessary" episodes. But yeah, I can imagine that DVD sales for these episodes would take a hit... it's unfortunate, but that's how it is. Then again, it also makes this even more amazing.

Well hopefully, we'll just get the whole second season in one set here which might make it worth buying.

On a side note: ANN has now made a seperate series listing for this rebroadcast with the new episodes. For a while they just added them to the original TMoHS page.

I think they should show Yuki's apartment after this all ends with all the walls filled floor to ceiling with the thousands of masks she's bought during the loops.

You know, I wonder why Kyon hasn't just asked Nagato to help in some way. I mean, she's helped him before despite being an observer and she must have some idea of how to break the loop.

Maybe it's like that silly Data thing with the "3s" in that TNG episode where they kept looping over and over again. He figures something out at midnight and tells her to tell him in the next loop.

I've achieved a Kyonesque level of apathy towards the series now, so I don't care any more.

The Hitler clip was rather funny. Guess I'm just a Haruhi poser then rather than a true believer. heh
