Spoilers The Mandalorian season 2 discussion

Right. If I recall, an absolutely deplorable example of histrionics was involved in the criticism of that particular movie.
It was rather vile rhetoric that I heard coming from adult fans, including use of rape analogies. It was ridiculous, over the top, histrionics that I can't help but recall whenever the ST is discussed. There is this strange belief that somehow the ST is new to being the "worst ever" in terms of SW fan view and it is far from the case.

Thought they did a good job overall with the second season. The ending was great.

What Solo SHOULD have been, IMO, is that it all ends up being Kira's master plan to get rid of Dryden and take control of Crimson Dawn. Showing that Kira has long since left behind the idealism she and Han shared due to the undoubtedly terrible life she must have led since their separation. She became a pragmatic survivor and wanted to get rid of Vos, to whom she was basically enslaved, and take control of her own destiny.

But then she just ends up reporting to a different boss. So she gained zero. Huge missed opportunity.
I believe the idea was supposed to be that she was going to be taking over Vos's position, and so would be one of the highest ranking members of Crimson Dawn. She might not have moved up to the very top, but she definitely moved up a lot in the organization.
He's clearly had some work done. Probably been assigned one of those Marvel movie personal trainers. At least he's out of rehab this time.
How many R2s have their been over the years? I'm assuming they reuse them at least a few times.

I'm going to go somewhere where I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of pushback, but there may be some truth to it. The truth does often hurt.

I think that its easy not to see that there is a certain amount of nostalgia that is involved in discussing the OT. We all grew up with it. We watched the hell out of videotapes in the 80s and 90s wearing them out. The movies harken back to a simpler time, maybe not so much for the world, but for us. Is it possible that the Star Wars movies are just not as good as we think they are? Is it possible that nostalgia plays a huge part in making these movies better than they really are? We treat these movies like they're the holy grail of cinema. But the movies, all three of the OT, and the following other cinematic and TV releases all have issues. Can we actually remove ourselves from the decades of nostalgia to see Star Wars for what it really is? A space fantasy action movie saga that has elements of soap opera, stilted direction, dialogue and action, tons of plot holes, an overreliance on fan service and nostalgia and honestly, just a way to sell toys? Maybe these are ultimately just fun popcorn movies that fans put a lot more stock into than they actually deserve.

Please don't mistake me-- I absolutely adore Star Wars. The 1977 film is my favorite movie of all time. But there are far better films out there. I make no pretense as to how much nostalgia plays a role in my fandom with the GFFA.

They are not but we value them above and beyond what even these films would reasonably expect to find for what they are. Bearing in mind that even Fox treated it as a dumb kids movie from the beginning.

Exactly my point. I find enjoyment in every entry, even the ones I'm not particularly fond of. But the way some treat these movies its almost like its high art. Its not.

How about we take the tired old discussion about which Star Wars movie is better than which into it's own thread where it can be safely ignored, yes?

Short answer: dozens!

Back in '76, the state of radio controlled robotics was very primitive by today's standard, and Star Wars was a relatively low budget movie, so there's no way in hell they'd be able to build just one droid that could do everything. So instead they churned out a whole bunch of shells and adapted each for a particular purpose. Some were set up for Kenny to get inside and operate in the two legged configuration, some were radio controlled on rollers in the three legged configuration, and I think a bunch were rigged just for specific shots (the one for the scomp link shots, the one they blew up in the trench run, the destroyed one they actually pulled out of the X-Wing, one that could deploy the third leg and one with the third leg bolted in place to he doesn't do the splits they they try to roll him etc etc.)
The ones built for Empire were all brand new since the electronics of the first generation were next to useless (they ended up pulling him on a string more often then he moved under his own power) plus the new fiberglass shells were less liable to boil poor Kenny alive and/or cut him to shreds. Jedi I think mostly just reused these, but for the prequel trilogy, each movie built a brand new batch (I think 15 were made for AotC alone!)

One assumes this one is a leftover from the sequel trilogy. Making R2's is a bit of a cottage industry at this point and the modern ones can indeed do more or less everything thanks to much bigger budgets and MUCH better and cheaper robotic technology, but they still need extra 'hero' props for redundancy in case one breaks down, stunt models and I think tRoS even had one manned by a little person again. So I wouldn't be surprised if the final count of screen used R2's (not counting those made just for public appearances, Star Tours etc.) is over 50!

Because, in my opinion, people making PRONOUNCEMENTS sounds like they do not think theirs is an opinion. I AM RIGHT, is the msg I perceive from a lot of posts. Not just here. Also in forums about Trek, where I hang out more.

And, in my opinion, people making pronouncements gets really old.
I’ve found that putting forward one’s opinion under some pretense of fact is a common occurrence in everyday life. I see it almost every day where I work. I take great enjoyment out of calling out such pronouncements at meetings. Those people have learned to stop when I’m in the room. Being working for the same client, now, for over 10 years, so it can be done without getting fired or one of those unpleasant visits from HR. :)

I mentioned a while back that I wouldn't mind seeing an OT reboot. Yes, I know many won't like the idea, but I think it would be cool. And I would make one major change, switch the Ewoks to Wookies like it should have been.

Wow, I thought it would maybe be one or two for each trilogy.
To give an example; this scene features at least two (possibly three) different R2s. When you first see him, it's Kenny in the "two legs" R2 prop. You see him stood there, leaning forward, then rock/wobble it around. Then it cuts to the remote controlled mechanised tripod unit for the leg foldout and roll towards camera. Right where it cuts back to 3PO, you can see the side legs start to splay out, which is why there was also a remote unit with the third leg bolted in place so it can roll and remain stable. The switch is even more obvious in this scene. Just watch the legs and note how a pair of steel brackets magically appear on the middle foot.
While I'm at it, the two main givaways that it's Kenny is 1) rocking back and forth, and 2) you can see the silver painted rubber pipes that are hiding where his legs fit into R2's feet from the central drum.

This was the stronger of the two seasons of the series for sure. I love them both but the show started coming into its own in Season 2.

It didn't change her situation at all, especially since Maul made a sexually-charged and utterly creepy intimation about them working "closer". Ugh. So gross. And it means she fundamentally has just left one controlling boss for someone arguable more evil. If anything, she's in a worse position. Epic fail on the movie's part.

Maul doing something creepy and inappropriate? That would never happen in a galaxy that still has slavery and women in scantily-clad outfits dancing for the pleasure of those in authority.

I took it as her possibly being trained as a apprentice, which might have been part of Maul's use of the Crimson Dawn organization to farm for potential apprentices. I did not take the sexual meaning in the statement.

Yeah, it was more of a warning that he was going to be paying much closer attention to her behavior and business dealings so as to prevent any disloyalty to the organization and to Maul himself. He wants loyalty and obedience.
