Do you have any arguments for why TLJ is that bad besides disagreement with its direction?
It was rather vile rhetoric that I heard coming from adult fans, including use of rape analogies. It was ridiculous, over the top, histrionics that I can't help but recall whenever the ST is discussed. There is this strange belief that somehow the ST is new to being the "worst ever" in terms of SW fan view and it is far from the case.Right. If I recall, an absolutely deplorable example of histrionics was involved in the criticism of that particular movie.
I believe the idea was supposed to be that she was going to be taking over Vos's position, and so would be one of the highest ranking members of Crimson Dawn. She might not have moved up to the very top, but she definitely moved up a lot in the organization. What Solo SHOULD have been, IMO, is that it all ends up being Kira's master plan to get rid of Dryden and take control of Crimson Dawn. Showing that Kira has long since left behind the idealism she and Han shared due to the undoubtedly terrible life she must have led since their separation. She became a pragmatic survivor and wanted to get rid of Vos, to whom she was basically enslaved, and take control of her own destiny.
But then she just ends up reporting to a different boss. So she gained zero. Huge missed opportunity.
How many R2s have their been over the years? I'm assuming they reuse them at least a few times. He's clearly had some work done. Probably been assigned one of those Marvel movie personal trainers. At least he's out of rehab this time.

They are not but we value them above and beyond what even these films would reasonably expect to find for what they are. Bearing in mind that even Fox treated it as a dumb kids movie from the beginning.Star Wars movies are just not as good as we think they are?

Short answer: dozens! How many R2s have their been over the years? I'm assuming they reuse them at least a few times.
I’ve found that putting forward one’s opinion under some pretense of fact is a common occurrence in everyday life. I see it almost every day where I work. I take great enjoyment out of calling out such pronouncements at meetings. Those people have learned to stop when I’m in the room. Being working for the same client, now, for over 10 years, so it can be done without getting fired or one of those unpleasant visits from HR.Because, in my opinion, people making PRONOUNCEMENTS sounds like they do not think theirs is an opinion. I AM RIGHT, is the msg I perceive from a lot of posts. Not just here. Also in forums about Trek, where I hang out more.
And, in my opinion, people making pronouncements gets really old.
Is it possible that the Star Wars movies are just not as good as we think they are? Is it possible that nostalgia plays a huge part in making these movies better than they really are?
To give an example; this scene features at least two (possibly three) different R2s. When you first see him, it's Kenny in the "two legs" R2 prop. You see him stood there, leaning forward, then rock/wobble it around. Then it cuts to the remote controlled mechanised tripod unit for the leg foldout and roll towards camera. Right where it cuts back to 3PO, you can see the side legs start to splay out, which is why there was also a remote unit with the third leg bolted in place so it can roll and remain stable. The switch is even more obvious in this scene. Just watch the legs and note how a pair of steel brackets magically appear on the middle foot.Wow, I thought it would maybe be one or two for each trilogy.
