Spoilers The Mandalorian | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

I'm sure you would do much better at everything..........
I'm not saying I would. just pointing out that her history was mainly an administrative position. I only sighed because me making this case only caused ire around here. I don't want to cause more ire, but that doesn't mean I want to step back from my position nor does it necessarily mean I'm wrong

The pod follows Mando automatically, and he is also seen giving it specific movement commands near the beginning of chapter 2.
Oh okay, I must not have been paying attention. Or I thought the commands were only for that moment.

I think towards the end, when they're boarding the cockpit of his ship, you can see Mando use his control panel to shift Baby Yoda into his position.

So I have "insufficient privileges" to respond to a direct question to me in the Mary Sue thread? I'd hardly call that fair

that's cool, bro. I only came back to this board a few months ago. I don't really keep up with how it works. I just find it interesting that people can respond to things I've said and I can't respond to them. Interesting. Yet when I have tried to bring the conversation back on track people still try to make their points about what an awful person I must be

I have no problem with that, save for the fact my statements have been "dragged into other threads" by others.

Warning for complaining about a moderator action in a separate thread from the previous. Comments to PM

It's a small detail, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time we've seen vibro-weapons actually vibrate. They never really draw attention to it so it's easily missed, but it's the kind of attention to detail that I really appreciate in this show.

So, is it too early to ask if the Mandalorian is a Mary Sue?

Mando is definitely not a Mary Sue. And I like that. He's a tough hombre for sure, but he makes mistakes and doesn't get everything right. He struggles and has to be helped/coached/reminded by others on how to accomplish a task. He appears to be a well-rounded character with room for growth and not some bad ass know it all who can take down the entire army without breaking a sweat.

Yeah. Don’t think that had anything to do with The Orville.

While not a nod to The Orville, it did feel like it came out of Orville. With few exceptions (Akbar and the other Mon Calamari), we've not seen an alien in that much alien makeup speaking English. It felt a little out of place. And the bathroom humor felt like Orville.

I wouldn't call it a nod or homage, though.

I think I remember reading somewhere that one theory is that they are the Whills.

I've felt for a while that was the direction Lucas was going, so it will probably not happen. Episodes 1-3 showed us that Lucas was willing to discard most or all of the background he laid in Episodes 4-6 (or were in the novels of those episodes) if he felt like it. It'd be nice, though.

So are we just going to ignore the Yoda/Yaddle implications here? :shifty:

No. Please no. The small galaxy syndrome is one of the reasons why I stopped reading the expanded universe. Not everyone needs to have a 6 degrees (or less) separation from major characters in the movies. Yaddle was barely in the movie. There is no need to give these two a romantic connection or have them produce a secret love child. For the love of the Force please make this baby unconnected. I'd be happy if this entire series is never connected directly to the events or characters of the episodes.

I know hovercraft technology is common in the SW galaxy (e.g. speeders). But I couldn't help but wonder if Yoda Jr. was moving his egg pod around with "The Force." It wasn't clear how it was following Mando around, since apparently there weren't any steering or acceleration/deceleration apparatus.

In a few places, it looked like Mando was controlling it, like he had an app on his armor or something.

I thought it was clear that Mando had slaved the controls of the pod to his suit. Especially the scene with the ambush where he waves his hand and the egg moves out of the combat area.

the Mary Sue thing wasn’t serious, in reference to another far sillier thread.

It was a worry of mine up to the first episode, though. I held my breath about them making a character like a duplicate Boba Fett from a reputation standpoint. Fandom loves Fett. I had expected this bounty hunter to always hit the target, be an ace at everything, and be a one man army.

Instead, to my delight, he gets bucked off a steed, ran through the mud, constantly fixing his damaged armor, and had his ship stripped and left on blocks.

Of course, he did prove superior to IG-11 and didn't once contemplate self destruction when penned down. How did that bounty hunting droid last as long as he did? Not that we know how many missions IG-11 had prior to this.

I suspect they actually had a LONG conversation about that very thing in the writers' room during pre-production. They probably initially laid out the first inviolable rule, "Yes, he's a Mandalorian like Fett, and he's good, but we shouldn't make him the one-man killing machine".

My one peeve is that his helmet and armor are very sparsely decorated. Fett and other Mandalorians that we've seen in the EU animated series had colorful customization to their armor to distinguish either themselves or their clans; covered in patterns, colors and symbolism, like war paint. This one looks a little too plain. Then again, maybe that's his distinguishing characteristic. He was orphaned as a child and perhaps the lack of decoration implies he has no clan (or doesn't know which one it is). Or maybe he's so new to the game he hasn't done anything of merit to warrant such decoration in the eyes of his peers. Don't really know.

The helmet pattern, however, looks 95% Fett, sans slot machine lever on the side.

The adoration is probably something he has to have 'earned' in the eyes of whatever armorer he uses to make his new pieces (like the Pauldron).

He specifically replies to The Armorer when asked if he has found his "sigil": Not yet.

I don't think he's a Mary Sue... but, I also don't think he's much of a character. Getting thrown off a space lizard and zapping some Jawas, for me, does not a character make.

He's quite a cypher for me and I don't have any feels towards him so I don't care if he succeeds or not, at this point.
