The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)

Disney be like
"NO STAR WARS TRAILER FOR YOU!"

Regardless, now seems a bit early to be releasing the trailer for a movie coming out in May anyway. Typically, May releases don't get their first trailers until sometime around Christmas, so we're still a few months away from when it would be expected anyway.

Which is another reason why I question that dubious news source.

And we personally know several folks (non-coastal types, it must be said) that have told us they are cancelling their Disney+ subscriptions. So far Lindelof is the most prominent creative to say he won’t work with the company, where projects keep humming along — including The Mandalorian & Grogu, which has a first trailer the company has been sitting on.
That's assuming Star Wars Holocrun is even a reliable source on this manner.
I understand your skepticism, but in the age of social media, it's incredibly easy to leak trailer dates. Someone at Disney likely told a podcaster, and they said it on air, and it likely leaked online. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that a trailer was coming, but it was postponed.

Hmm. Filoni's using the feature budget to throw in even more creature effects than he could afford on TV. Aside from extras, the only human face featured in the trailer is Sigourney Weaver's.

Well, damn. That trailer is exactly what I needed right now. By that, I mean, in recent months I've been feeling somewhat meh about going to theatres to see movies, in fact, I don't think I will be seeing any more movies in theatres in 2025, and there are only a few handful of movies in 2026 I have an interest in, and even then I'd been debating whether or not I should bother with them in theatres or just wait until the home media release. But after watching that trailer, I am now convinced that I have to see Mandalorian and Grogu in theatres.

What can I say. It's a Mandalorian movie. Was hoping to get a little story from the trailer but guess will have to wait a few more months for that.

It's about what I'd expect from such an early teaser; fun, action, cameos for the fans, and a little comedy with the little green star of the movie.

Random notes: -
  • First off; I really really hope that's Nar Shaddaa. I know I've said that for like two or three other show.game trailers these last few years, but aside from a few name-drops, it's been so odd for the smuggler's moon to have been overlooked in non-print media for so long!
  • Amani! It'll be nice to see at least one of these get a spotlight after being one of the more interesting background designs at Jabba's Palace, and were almost featured in one of the unfinished Clone Wars arcs (yes the story reels were released, but it's just not the same seeing them rolly-polly around in their low-poly temp assets!)
  • If those aren't Vulture Droids, they're something with a very similar profile. Seems weird for the Empire to have them, unless they're a take on the TIE/Ds. Wouldn't be the first Dark Empire pull for the Mandoverse, but Vulture Droids seem more likely, especially if they're Hutt controlled, not Remnant. Indeed the red instead of green blasters would indicate they're probably not Imperial.
  • Well, looks like Zeb is getting more to do in this than just a simple cameo. It would have been weird for him not to be busting bucketheads like the old days!
  • U-Wing! Oh hey and I just voted for those in the Starfighter thread too! Kinda weird seeing a clean one in New Republic livery though!
  • Buff Hutt? Yeah I know this leaked back during Celebration, but it's still fun to see! I think it's still even money as to whether this is Grakkus or Rotta. Given how long Hutts live it seems a little to early for the latter to have gotten so big (yes, even after 30 years!) but certainly not out of the question. Also the presence of the Twins on the poster and the Desilijic Clan crest all over the gladiatorial dungeons would seem to heavily indicate it.
  • An actual Savrip? Very interesting! Indeed it seems Favreau is including a lot of creature work in this one, both digital and practical. I approve! Indeed between this and Grogu's choice of snack, this might be Ord Mantell, which honestly seems more likely to be Favreau's pick than Nar Shaddaa.
  • I know it's been in the wild since forever, but I really appreciate that they went with the earlier Ralph/Joe AT-AT design from 'Rebels'. It's always nice when unused concept art gets a chance to shine!
