The Least Disliked 2023: Star Trek Movies

I'll vote for Wrath of Khan. There's nothing I hate about it, but I do think it's wildly overrated and I love every other movie on this list way more than it.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 1
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 0
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 0
Star Trek: First Contact - 0
Star Trek Beyond - 0

We're in really good territory now - except for TSFS, which I think is merely pretty good. I'd have voted for it before ST09 if I'd been around.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 1
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 1
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 0
Star Trek: First Contact - 0
Star Trek Beyond - 0

NOW we are at the best movies.

I'll vote for STIII. Nothing really wrong with it, and it gave us THREE new ships that have been used very, very often in the franchise. (Excelsior, Oberth, and Bird of Prey.) Plus seeing the Enterprise destroyed hurt.

I just like the others more.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 1
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 2
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 0
Star Trek: First Contact - 0
Star Trek Beyond - 0

Oh, no! TSFS, my favourite film! Why? WHY?!? :) (Heh heh, I knew it wouldn't last long)

I'll vote for Wrath of Khan. There's nothing I hate about it, but I do think it's wildly overrated
- Yeah, I feel the same way. I find it a bit clunky, although the amazing starship action goes some way to make up for it. However, TUC gets my vote again.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 1
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 2
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 1
Star Trek: First Contact - 0
Star Trek Beyond - 0

It's not my favourite, but I love Star Trek III.
Anyway, I'm voting for The Undiscovered Country. It's mostly fine, but it has a fair few problematic moments that let's it down.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 1
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 2
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 2
Star Trek: First Contact - 0
Star Trek Beyond - 0

I will again vote for overrated Khan.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 2
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 2
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 2
Star Trek: First Contact - 0
Star Trek Beyond - 0

Star Trek Beyond deserves to go way before any of these films. It’s not bad, but it’s really quite average and the plot is tremendously flawed if you hold it to any level of objective scrutiny whatsoever.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 2
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 2
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 2
Star Trek: First Contact - 0
Star Trek Beyond - 1

This is getting tough. I will vote "Search for Spock" partly because it seems a little pointless to introduce a small "next generation" for the TOS crew, only to kill half of it off in the very next film; but mostly because I think it's the one on this list that I'm least likely to rewatch.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 2
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 3
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 2
Star Trek: First Contact - 0
Star Trek Beyond - 1

I concur with Star Trek Beyond. I actually think it might be the best of the Kelvin flicks but come on, ALL the rest are classics.

Also... it's been years now but I distinctly remember this movie consistently mentioning a "nebula" they must pass through and I don't recall ever seeing a nebula, and I got the distressing feeling that the filmmakers didn't know what a nebula was.

I could be remembering wrong, though!

Edit: I almost forgot, I've always been bitter about this movie's title because at the time I was thinking how cool it would be if there were a movie called Star Trek Beyond Imagination, and then they went and named this one just "Beyond" so now there's a less than zero chance of my dream title ever becoming reality (I think Star Trek Beyond Reason would be pretty cool, too, but we've gone and killed any other title that has the word "Beyond" now). Damn!

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 2
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 3
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 2
Star Trek: First Contact - 0
Star Trek Beyond - 2

I like Beyond the least of the Kelvin films, though I realise I'm a bit of an oddity in this aspect. I like how they tried to make it more like TOS with the Spock/McCoy interplay, the story is a chore to get through.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 2
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 3
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 2
Star Trek: First Contact - 0
Star Trek Beyond - 3

Beyond is the best movie in the franchise.

Emphatically agreed.

Unpopular opinion alert: this franchise has four great films - the Kelvin trilogy and TUC. These are the only Trek movies that truly understand what it is to be a movie.

All of the others struggle much more with making a fictional universe designed around the specific properties of television function in the alien environment of the big screen.

(though I do still like and enjoy all the films to varying degree -- aside from Insurrection and Nemesis which are just trash)

I wont vote this round, but if III goes before Beyond I'll have many questions
Just vote for it, lol. Be the change you want to see in the world and all that :)
I'm sure I'll be alone in this, but I'll start the next round with a vote for Wrath Of Khan. I find it over-rated.

I've tried to come to it with fresh eyes so many times, too. I keep thinking the next rewatch is going to be the one where it clicks for me and I see what everyone else sees. Hasn't happened yet.

Hmm, just going by your two posts above, have you tried coming at TWOK with the "it deconstructs the TV show" angle? TUC does it, too. I don't know if it was anything Nicholas Meyer was conscious of, but both of his films are essentially about Kirk having to adjust to life no longer playing out like an episodic TV show anymore.

Since everyone else is gun shy, I'll pull the trigger. Getting rid of Beyond. I've only watched it once. In the seven years since it's been out. Whereas I've watched all the others still remaining countless times. That says something to me.

Of the ones left... this is really tough. Ummm. I'll go with First Contact. Why? Because TWOK, TSFS, TVH, and TUC make a great Quadrilogy. And then there's First Contact? I love FC but, at this point, it's the odd man out.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 0
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 0
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 0
Star Trek: First Contact - 1

My vote this round is again ST III. Same reasons as before.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 0
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 1
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 0
Star Trek: First Contact - 1

Hit the nail in the head with Grabthar's Hammer. Rewatchability. That's the thing the originals have and the Kelvins don't.

I feel like the current lineup we've got is The Canon, so as far as I'm concerned we got the most important part right and I'm not overly concerned with the order from here on out.

I guess I'll vote Undiscovered Country as it seems the least essential and most redundant of this group (a finale movie in an entire series of TOS movies designed to accommodate a "potential finale" contingency, and all already existing as a "post-finale" of the TV series). Also, I feel like Search For Spock and First Contact get too much shit from fans.

If we bench TUC here we'd be left with the II-III-IV trilogy and The Next Generation's Motion Picture, which feels correct.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - 1
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 2
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 0
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 1
Star Trek: First Contact - 1

I'm suddenly remembering casually watching the Sci-fi channel on a lazy weekend ten years ago or so, and it went from the end of Undiscovered Country and immediately segueing (no commercial or promo break) right into First Contact, to my pleasant surprise. The way you go from Kirk's log talking about handing the reins to a new crew and then it's just like "and here they are!" especially contributed to the pure awesomeness. It put the biggest smile on my face.
