The Kelvin Timeline Starship Thread

Hi Peeps

Random Kelvin-timeline starship observation I recently made - of the Enterprise from the 09 movie: the bussards remain unlit (dark inky blue/black) while at impulse - and only seen to spin/glow blue when at warp.

This may have been obvious to most, however Ive only just realised this. It should be noted that, as of Trek Beyond, the bussards are then seen glowing and spinning while at impulse, as well as warp.

Edit: I’ve just noticed that the bussards are spinning / glow in Into Darkness also. So would appear to just unique to Trek 09 only.
There's a slight glow in ST09 as well, mostly visible from the side or bottom. All three movies seem to keep the same rule where the fan blades are stopped while the ship is docked, spinning at a moderate rate at impulse, and spinning really fast for warp.

I’ve heard about this with the deflector dish but this is the first time for the Bussards. Curious we knew about one but not the other until now.

I thought I might be misremembering, but from what I my eyes are seeing (bear in mind, I have reading glasses), this does indeed seem to be the case. One thing Ive also noticed about the bussards in Trek 09: many of the front-end angles of the Enterprise, obscure or ‘hide’ the bussards from being seen - which also makes it tricky discerning their glow and spinning - or lack thereof.

The deflector dish also has variable geometry (the aperture changes / alters, depending on mode) - however, Im not sure I can recall seeing this in effect on-screen…

Gives me more reason to do rewatches of the Kelvin-Trilogy!
