The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

Remember upthread when we discussed an Old Man Bond/Logan type film for Dalton or Brosnan? Well, what about Old Man Austin?
Stretches what little credibility we have remaining.......
Oh behave...

Controversial opinion, the AP films got worse the more creative control Myers had. The first is brilliant, the second is fun, the third is bloody awful apart from the opening gag (though even that feels a tad indulgent) and Caine's Dutch joke.
Not even the celebrity suckup cameos could save GOLDMEMBER. I'll take SHAGGED over the first. Awesome envelope-pushing opening credits sequence.

They kind of did, when one considers Bond stealing the "big twist" of AP3 for "Spectre."
They can still steal it back VIC-VIC style, while giving Mike Myers a chance at being the first Academy-award winning Bond. If Brendan Fraser of all stars can win for weighing a ton, Myers can get serious AND get the Goldmister.:borg:

OK, that's twice you've referenced some out there take on Victor / Victoria. What are you talking about?

A woman playing a man playing a woman. If Austin gets as serious as his original inspiration later became, then Austin out-Bonds the older Bonds by equalling or surpassing Daniel Craig's violent intensity.

And returning the ripoff-favor from SPECTRE. When Austin ripped off Bond it was lovingly. When SPECTRE raided an Austin premise, it's CRAP!!!!!*

(small SNL Myers ripoff right there)

I think that's true of pretty much every movie Myers has made. The more input/control has, the worse it is. That Netflix series from a few years ago that he produced and starred in was nigh-unwatchable and the less said about the Love Guru the better.

Barbara Broccoli's next movie is going to be - a remake of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'.
Well, it was an Ian Fleming book. I just hope they get it off the ground (heh) in time to give Dick Van Dyke a cameo.

I always thought it funny that while the Bond cars with all the fancy gadgets are largely an invention of the movies, Fleming did indeed write of a car that, shall we say, exceeds the manufacturer's specifications.

Huh. I didn't realize until right now that the screenplay of the movie was written by Roald Dahl of Willy Wonka and James and the Giant Peach fame.

That would explain some of the movie's outlandishness. I enjoyed it as a kid, but find most of it unwatchable now. My hope is that the new movie is a bit more faithful to the book.

Sadly, the slide whistle is even present on the film's soundtrack album. :(
