The Funniest Movie

^
I completely agree on "The Emperor's New Groove". That's definitely one of the funniest movies I've ever seen (and easily my favorite Disney film). The comic timing is perfect IMHO, and it has a wonderful sense of irony and sarcasm.

But the first film I had to think of was "Airplane!". So many amazing scenes...

Roger Murdock: Flight 2-0-9'er, you are cleared for take-off.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: L.A. departure frequency, 123 point 9'er.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Victor Basta: Request vector, over.
Captain Oveur: What?
Tower voice: Flight 2-0-9'er cleared for vector 324.
Roger Murdock: We have clearance, Clarence.
Captain Oveur: Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?
Tower voice: Tower's radio clearance, over!
Captain Oveur: That's Clarence Oveur. Over.
Tower voice: Over.
Captain Oveur: Roger.
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: Roger, over!
Roger Murdock: What?
Captain Oveur: Huh?
Victor Basta: Who?

Airplane! is definitely a hilarious movie. The gags come from all different directions, and never stop.

Other movies worth mentioning:

Galaxy Quest

Alexander: "I see you managed to get your shirt off."

Free Enterprise

Shatner: "I'm not really here. I'm one of the top ten imaginary friends kids have. Just behind John Travolta, Reggie Jackson, and Farrah Fawcett-Majors."

Robert: "Well... it was something he said."
Shatner: "What'd he say?"
Robert: "You really don't want to know."
Shatner: "I really do want to know!"
Robert: "He said that Han Solo was cooler than Captain Kirk."
[pause]
Shatner: "Kick the little fucker's ass."

Life of Brian

Really, everything in the film. But especially the whole bit about Brian being the true messiah no matter what he says.

Team Ameria!

The way the puppets pretend to be cool action heroes while incapable of overcoming their strings handicap is hilarious.

Also: Maaatt Daaamoooon. :guffaw:

The early Woody Allen movies "Take the Money and Run" and "Bananas". These absurdist comedies directly inspired the style of "Airplane" and "The Naked Gun" series.

"Modern" Film:
1. Throw Momma From the Train - Billy Crystal/Danny DeVito

You don't have a cousin Paddy! :guffaw:

2. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation - Chevy Chase

"Classic" Film:
1. 1 A.M. - Charlie Chaplin
2. My Man Godfrey - William Powell/Carole Lombard
3. Operation Petticoat - Cary Grant/Tony Curtis
4. Mother Goose - Cary Grant/Leslie Caron/Trevor Howard
5. The Music Box - Laurel & Hardy
6. Support Your Local Sheriff! - James Garner

A few other brief thoughts. Not the "funniest" necessarily, but little gems I always stop at when I find them on....

Overboard. This movie cracks me up. Goldie Hawn is perfect. A sweet little film.

Miss Congeniality. Long live Gracie Lou Freebush! Some great scenes with Michael Caine.

So I Married an Axe Murderer. I guess not a lot of folks liked this one, but my wife and I think it's hilarious. Especially Mike Myers as the crazy Scottish dad:

"Oh, I hate the Colonel, with his wee beady eyes and that smug look on his face. Oh, you're gonna buy my chicken!"

"We have a piper down! Repeat. We have a piper down!"

Kingpin is a great film that seems to have been largely forgotten. Role Models is also criminally underrated.

I'd say --

1. Office Space
2. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
3. Airplane!
4. Clerks II
5. Blazing Saddles
6. Young Frahnkenschteen
7. Trading Places
8. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
9. Wayne's World
10. The Man With Two Brains
11. The Jerk
12. Planes, Trains and Automobiles
13. Clerks
14. The Simpsons Movie
15. Top Secret!
16. The American Pie films
17. Any of the Pink Panther films with Peter Sellers
18. Galaxy Quest

There are others...but those are the ones that come to mind immediately...

Spaceballs. All anyone has to do to get me laugh is say "He's an Asshole, sir" and I'm gone. I know that movie word for word.

Airplane! another one I crack up just thinking about. "Oh, Stewardess? I speak Jive." "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue." "Don't call me Shirley."

Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

More recently- Anchorman, 40 Year Old Virgin, Tropic Thunder, and Pineapple Express. All damn near made me pee from laughing so hard! :guffaw:

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World. Such a classic comedy. So many comedic greats were in that movie.
I still laugh when i see him kick the bucket.
"That guy's dead and you better believe it"

Airplane II was pretty good, as well, such as:

- the Voice Activated Doors ("SSH!")

- Shatner:

Murdock: We'd better get to the tower, Lieutenant.
Purvis: We have no tower, sir.
Murdock: (pause) No tower?
Purvis: Just a bridge, sir.
Murdock: WHY THE HELL AREN'T I NOTIFIED ABOUT THESE THINGS?!?!? (gets out from behind the viewscreen like it's a door)
:guffaw:

As for When Nature Calls...funniest part of the whole thing was when Ace is meditating and chanting "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalrighty thennnnnnnnnnn......" :D

I'm glad I didn't end up being the first person to mention Mad, Mad World. Really an awesome film from beginning to end, with a lot of incredible stunt work.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights

"Hey Blinkin!"
"Did you just say Abe Lincoln?"

Also Emperor's New Groove...best quote ever...

"Yay I'm a llama again!...Wait"

Am I the only guy in the world who liked Airplane II better than the original? I mean there has got to be at least one here just for Shatner if not anything else.

The early Woody Allen movies "Take the Money and Run" and "Bananas". These absurdist comedies directly inspired the style of "Airplane" and "The Naked Gun" series.

The scene in Take The Money And Run where he tries to run over the woman who is blackmailing him is maybe the funniest scene I have ever seen.

The Big Lebowski. There are certain scenes in this movie which make me giggle just thinking about them.

"VE'LL CUT OFF YOUR JOHNSON!"
"Nice Marmot"
"Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature"
"He fixes the cable?"

Et cetera et cetera, I could go on and on.

I don't think A Fish Called Wanda has been mentioned yet. I love that movie.

"It's K-K-K-Ken, coming to K-K-K-Kill me!"

In regards to Austin Powers, I thought the second movie was the funny one. The first one was just OK. The third one was awful. I may be biased because I have a thing for Heather Graham.

In regards to movies THIS DECADE that made me laugh (starting to feel old now), there was Tropic Thunder, Anchorman, and Ratatouille.

All of the Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers. I've seen them many times and they still make me lol. Also agree with Grandma's Boy, Blazing Saddles and Stripes
