Again, the only way diversity gets in the way is if you let it. When I watched any of these movies for the first time, the last thing I considered was the fact that there were female, African-American, Latino-American or Asian-American leads and how they may or may not have been handled. I was drawn into the story. Mileage of course may vary, but for me, it didn't get in the way. So, this idea of forced diversity that keeps getting brought up? I'm sorry but it just doesn't resonate with me.

I agree. I see it as neither forced nor an agenda being pushed on me, any more than Lucas' more liberal political views and Vietnam allegory bothered me in the OT.

And, more to the point, is that expectations of diversity have changed as populations have changed. So, while the OT was fine for then, there is places were it can improve in the now. That's why diversity is so valuable. It allows for all to come in without concern. It's why Star Trek was considered such a big deal. Star Wars seems to still be trying to learn it.

The sequel movies never really even draw attention to the races of the characters, so the only way I can really see anyone having a problem if they're the kind of racist and sexist who just can't stand being reminded that groups other than white men exist.
I have to confess that the lack of diversity in the OT, and A New Hope specifically, actually did bug me a bit the last time I watched them. But then I reminded myself that those kind of lily white sausage fests were pretty standard back then. It didn't necessarily make me angry, but it definitely caught my attention.

But the concept of fighting a tyrannical regime to bring peace to the galaxy kinda screams social justice, don’t ya think?
see .. fighting tyrannical regimes is a human story. But whatever. You can just use whatever terms you want top fit the argument. Dishonest AF. Next you are going to saw that diversity is also a human story. and while you are not wrong... SW was about what it was about. I watched a Few Good Men and loved it, but it wasn't about marriage or even love, but those are human stories every bit as much as some of the themes in that movie.

On a slightly different aspect.. it's really amazing how much these sequels seemed to lack breadth and imagination. There are aspects of the prequels I loathe.. but they were trying to show us new things

I just finished watching all 3 sequels. Love them all now that I've seen the 3rd even more because it casts a new light.

SW expanded. Starting in ESB that story was ever expanding. ROTJ demonstrated far more with diversity of the Rebels, while the Empire was all male and white. This isn't a new concept.

And failed at the important aspects. They are beautiful to look at and...that's it.

Give me the ST and all the character development. Give me Finn's story over Anakin's as presented in the films.

it's not just visual .. it's

Oh Rebels vs empire again (give them slightly different names but copy the same homework). Oh the new trilogy has TWO desert planets? How imaginative. And Palpatine is alive plagiarizing his lines from episode 3.

SW was not created to solve or even talk about racism. I think everyone kind of missed that
Did I miss something, because I don't remember racism coming up as an issue in any of the movies?
All they did was try to make things look a bit more like they do in the real world.
Do you get this upset when you are out shopping and eating at a restaurant when you see women or non-white people? Is a black person walking past you on side walk shoving diversity at you? That's basically all that's happening here, they're just trying to make the Star Wars Galaxy look a bit more like our world does.
