The Down Under Lounge

I would absolutely love it if we went to a DD, but I have to agree with Marc here. The government is too unpopular. I can't see it happening.

The upside we have, is that the minor parties can't support the liberal government so they're going to be limited in the damage they'll be able to do.

The GST was wildly unpopular and it only got through because the Democrats supported it. Anyone remember them? That support killed their party. They haven't been heard from since. Palmer United knows that, and without Palmer United on board, the Liberals are dead in the water on quite a number of things.

In Queensland Newman has a bit more breathing room because Queensland doesn't got the polls till early next year but when you're looking at going from a massive majority to losing office in 3 years, it's really really bad. Oh and Newman could be one of those to lose his seat.

I don't think it is as clear cut in Queensland. The liberals are wildly unpopular, but atm Labor is unknown. It's going to be a dirty election and the Liberals will use that fear of the unknown card. I think it will be close, but I'm not going to get cocky about it.

Sure, let us know when you see one. :D

So, the Carbon Tax is still in place, this pleases me.

I really do think we need some kind of tax like this in place, with safeguards that corporations have to pay and not pass the bulk of it on to consumers. Anyine else have any thoughts?

And of course, Abbott squirming is a good thing. :)

Is this an Australia only thread or can real men join?

:D
There's a really obvious response to that remark, but since I have this silly orange username I can't post it. Too bad.

I'll zone out of the political discussion. Partisan party politics disgusts me.

No. Annoying as they can be, sheep are far too intelligent a creature to demean in such a way.

I've been reading #auspol fanfic.

Tony Abbott recoiled in horror as his attempt to repeal the carbon tax failed.
"But… but… I trusted you Clive!" he wailed. "You bloody independent senators!" he hissed at the members of PUP. "You’re just inexperienced! That’s why you’re disagreeing with me!”
Later, at home, Tony was sobbing quietly while he was eating bird’s eggs he’d gotten from his neighbour’s aviary (they didn’t know it was him stealing them, but had their suspicions…) when suddenly Clive Palmer burst through his wall in a 4WD driven by Ricky Muir.
"Surprise motherfucker! Woo!" The car slowly reversed while Clive (barely fitting through the window) thrust his arms in the air and waved them randomly before giving Tony the middle finger. "What will I do next? Who the fuck knows! Maybe I’ll attach balloons to Parliament and whisk it away Up style! Look out motherfucker! Clive out!" Muir drove off into the night, honking all the way.

1 - Time spent in Japan = jealousy
2 - Liberal Hatred = Awesomeness!

In Australia The Liberals are the conservatives

I despise Tony Abbott and his band of right wing nation wrecking xenophobic, homophobic, racist, theocratic scum.

DD? Bring it on!

I only hope the Napthine and his Libs go down in Vic come November. Unfortunately earlier this year I moved out of a genuinely swing state seat (Prahran) into a fairly safe Tory one (Caulfield).

Okay rant over... Back to our regular scheduled programmes of Badgers, electrical superstorms, monkeys and naked Janeway...

Hello, Respected Australian a Persons!...Usurper American HIjol here, with a touristy question, if I may...and, of course, I am not a Real Man, I just play one in my Country... :) ...I saw the briefest of snatches of a Travel program showcasing Melbourne...there appears to be a street trolley car done up as a moving restaurant...it looked so very cool! as with most things in your Rockin' Country...could someone please give me information, if you have it...or if you have actually been on it...???...much appreciated, in advance!!!

..your Tony Abbott conversations will now be returned to you...Until next post at the same time, when the control voice will take you to...The Down Under Lounge...

So, Ian Thorpe IS gay.

Who knew? More importantly, who cares? Nobody's business but his own really. Doesn't make him any less of a champion.

Hopefully he can move on with his life.
