The Down Under Lounge

I had a friend who was pretty involved with the Labor party for years and it's no different.

I don't see why it wouldn't be any different. The ABC did a previous series of this show with the ALP a few years back but not sure if they gave it a different title.

I didn’t realise it has been that long since I posted.

I have been busy.

*Visiting my friend in hospital (she’s out now)
*continuing my weight loss program (I am down to 60kg and on a maintenance diet)
*protesting that they want to building AFL training ovals on parklands in the centre of my community (let the footballers drive another 20 minutes out to a more suitable location). This is on top of the stadium they want to build which Tasmania cannot afford.
*Posting around the net about the movie and the book ‘Society of the Snow’ which is about the Andes Survivors and is the ninth book I have read about them. The movie is excellent and is nominated for Best International Movie at the Oscars. I have watched the movie 4 times so far.

How's your friend going?

Please tell us your weight loss secrets! I remember you said you are walking 10k steps a day without fail. I like walking and am car free but I do get bored walking without a purpose. I like to walk TO places. I was thinking I might get some bluetooth headphones and start listening to music while walking in my usual completionist way, that might give me incentive to walk (ie, need a secondary reason).

I will have to watch Society of the Snow. I did read one book about that incident years ago.

My friend is on the mend. Her biggest problem is that she is a pessimist and I think that has hampered her recovery somewhat.

I use an app called MyNetDiary to record my meals and exercise. I like the fact that it accepts Australian barcodes. It also tracks micronutrients, water etc it is linked to my FitBit so my steps are automatically logged, it also gives my 40% of the kilojoules I lose by walking back into my diet meaning that if I walk enough can add a chocolate protein bar to my daily food.

Walking is not difficult because I walk to different street libraries in my suburb and neighbouring suburbs. I am now walking 5 days a week. If I walk to my favourite street library and my local shopping centre I am at about 12,000 steps by the time I get home. This street library doesn’t just have books, people leave all kinds of things including pot plants, jigsaws, games, figurines, crockery etc etc

I visit this library twice a week. There are two smaller street libraries close to each other that I visit on another day,

I usually visit my son once a week. Walking to his unit and catching a bus back is usually around 11,000 steps.

One day a week I do a two beach walk looking for interesting things and taking photos of birds. I have one jar for shells, pebbles, sea glass etc and another for plastic, string and other small pieces of rubbish. The second jar is taking me a long time to fill up.

That means I have one day free to walk elsewhere.

Bluetooth headphones are awesome. I brought a pair after Christmas. I use them much more than the buds I brought.

They are but I find I use them at home but not often and feel a bit self conscious of them if I take them out. Mine are blueant ones and they really are nice but yeah I just feel a bit self conscious of them so don't wear them out often if at all.

Some people, especially older ones, are against a cashless society. I'm inclined to agree, banks and similar know too much about us already.

Man charged with murder after what looks like chasing his wife with a tractor with a slasher thing on the front. She was found dead at the scene

Poor woman, what a horrible way to die

Tasmania is having an election next month. The Liberals currently are a minority government, and the only Liberal government in Australia, so hopefully Labor will win and it will by Labor across the board.
