The Down Under Lounge

Merry Christmas, everyone. Sorry, I have been very busy. One of my friends had a heart attack last week and is spending her Christmas in hospital :(

I have now lost 15 kilos in weight and I have entered the healthy weight zone. I was obese 5 months ago. On 23 December I had walked 10,000+ steps a day for 151 days but I had yesterday and today off from walking.

I bought myself an Advent Crime Fiction Mystery Box from the Book Grocer. 24 books to unwrap each day from 1 to 24 December. Here is a photo of the 24 books.

She has had problems besides the heart attack. She had one of her toes amputated a couple of months ago due to diabetes and now has an ulcer in the same foot. She is partially the reason I am working so hard trying to reverse my pre diabetes. I really want to avoid the problems she is having.

However it does look like she will be released later this week.

think my mother needed to have my brother and I back home to help with all the food.

The day started with bacon & eggs (so did my in as that's normal for the in-laws) and crepes.

Christmas lunch had chicken, turkey, lamb and ham followed by cheesecake or fruit pudding and custard.

On sister said she brought containers for the left overs, the other said she just brought the vodka.

Christmas wasn't an entirely bad day. I did something I never normally do and decided to go with everyone to my niece's house and spent most of the day there and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Evening everyone decided randomly that we would all play UNO and so we did. That was actually fun. All in all I can't complain as I enjoyed myself.

Well Internode has gone to shit and everyone is leaving.

Aussie Broadband is the way to go and I'll be making the switch after NY and I've been with them since the days of DSL so it will and won't be sad. They used to be a good company till Simon Hackett sold them off.

Christmas was very relaxing with just mum and myself, as my siblings were elsewhere with their families. Still have some leftovers. Tempting to have more pavlova tonight - but I won't now.

Did some shopping today, as I have some gift cards that I wanted to use. Sadly neither store had what I wanted. But ended up buying Patrick Stewart's memoirs, which I started to read before did when I read a few pages. Might read some later, but feel like laying down and resting, as my knee is giving me some problems. Also thinking about what to buy from JBHifi, as I have a giftcard - thinking about some bluetooth headphones for when I resume at the gym soon.

Actually went to the Boxing Day sales which I never do, mainly because I had to switch trams in the CBD so might as well have a look.. whoa so many people!

Bought two items from Lush which were 50% off, that was it.

Had a quiet one. Heard from fam up here, they liked the presents I left for them. Watching an Aussie YTer going through Who season by season, found stuff I didn't know.

Hope y'all had a good time.

in Adelaide there's the usual bullshit about shopping hours with the local murdoch rag going on about how people can go out for boxing day sales but can't go the supermarket to get milk.

Never mind all the shopping days in the lead up to Christmas and making sure you had enough food but how many of those who might make such complaints would scream bloody murder if they had to work on the public holiday.

Excuse me while I poke my head in the door here...

anyhoo, in the last episode of NCIS: Sydney (the last one that aired up here, anyway), there is a hostage situation at a "dog café" with a bomber threatening to blow the place up. Am I right in thinking that this could never in a million years actually happen down there?

I mean, I had always believed that Australia had extremely strict controls on explosives/bombs and that there's no way that some random citizen could ever get ahold of one. This is actually the case, isn't it?

Edit: I really do love this show, it may even become my favorite show of all time. I'm just glad I can watch it! :)

I feel like I'll never again be a Whovian. Just kind of can't get back into it :(

We had a quiet one here, only 5 people and 3 drop ins which is quiet for us. Was good! Ate nice food and drank some expensive champers. Excellent all round.

Boxing day went to an open house and drank home made vodka which was being distilled before my eyes. And homemade limoncello which was lovely.

It would be rare, but we had a hostage situation in a Lindt cafe in Sydney a few years ago with a (fake) bomb that resulted in several deaths. The thing with bombs is, you can make them, they could be really shitty but.. it's still a device that is threatening. But yes this would be a very rare thing.

Yeah, I was thinking of the Lindt cafe too. Events like that are extremely rare in Australia, as Fruitcake said, but they do happen. You could probably go to YT, search on Lindt cafe Sydney and see what turns up.

I don't remember much of the Lindt Cafe thing. How long ago was that again?

I have one family member who went down that rabbit hole swears things like that are staged

^ That was 2014. I remembered it as I've got a friend who worked at the time in a building near by.

That feels so long ago. I can remember bits and pieces of the day that happened, and that guy what was really heroic who worked in the cafe, but not much else.

I made the switch to Aussie Broadband today and it is all set up and running all under an hour

Impressive performance by Pat Cummins in the Boxing Day Test and nice to see a bowler getting "Player of the Match" - that doesn't happen often enough!

^ The win was great. Patty bowled so well. I was hoping that he would take a 6 or 7 wicket during one of the innings. He is one of the form bowlers in the world at the moment.
