The Down Under Lounge

Does the question even need to be asked? Morrison's a member of their flock

He's not even pretending to run the country any more, it's a smash and grab job

So Novak is being deported. Good decision. His lawyers are trying to overturn the decision by the minister.

pending a appeal to the courts.

I can't stand djockovic but the ability for a government minister to order a deportation has been a concern for sometime especially when the lnp is in power as they tend to use it to by-pass due process c.f Mandou Habib when that prat kevin andrews was the relevant minister.

Fuck Hillsong. How can they get their grubby hands onto RATs when essential workers cannot?

The old saying "it's who you know" so who do they know to bypass the queue over everyone else? And zero fines for them for their superspreader event. As Mick said he's not even trying now to run the country. Nothing is ever his problem.

Good riddance to Djokovic. Anti-vaxxer, anti-science cheats don't merit any sympathy IMO. But again, screw the government and its blatant hypocrisy and electioneering bullshit in all this.

Hillsong is a cult. Stuff them, too.

Bring on the next election. I'm hoping that it will be a landslide to labor and get rid of these arse-hats that are power. This whole saga has been a mess. Could have been handled so much better.

But it's good that Novak is finally gone.

It would be great if the opposition was more proactive and didn't meekly follow the current crowd on things like refugees and asylum seekers. For a supposedly "progressive" party, Labor's attitude on such matters is despicable and inexcusable. But at this point I just want the current mob gone. ASAP.

It's basically a choice between two parties. This current mob or the alternative.

And don't get me started on that "yellow" party. They are worse than Morrison and his lot. They think of themselves as a third alternative. Nope. Not happening. I'd rather support Manly (while listening to Nickelback) than see these clowns have any power. And i think it's time stop for the night.

Dylan Alcott is the new Australian of the year. Good choice.

meanwhile the lnp continues to show it's true colours.

Last year's winner has copped a blast from liberal senator (who reading between the lines on comment elsewhere is not a particularly nice person to deal with) because she wasn't all smiles and worship when next to scummo.

For a woman who was sexually abused by a man in a position of power it's not a good look for the senator and given the pathetic job morrison has done with handling various cases of sexual abuse involving lnp members and staffers I don't blame her for being sour on him.

So I've been asleep or something for the last twenty years.

When did 'Happy Australia Day' become a thing we say?

It sounds ridiculous. This isn't Christmas

probably since lying rodent was P.M

Until then we were pretty casual about it and the public holiday was on the nearest monday but howard was desperate to prove patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrel and all of sudden it was a much bigger thing.

Well that and idiots in the media and the bigger idiots in the community (can remember reading in the paper many years ago about how one person was heard to wish another "happy ANZAC Day".

Even if Australia Day wasn’t offensive to the majority of Aboriginal people I still think celebrating our national day on 26 January is a little strange.
The lot that arrived at Botany Bay in January 1788 were a mixed group. The convicts were, on the whole, just minor criminals so I have some sympathy for most of them. The marines were bigger criminals than the convicts. The officers, for the most part, were either pompous dicks, or slightly crazy, and they continuously squabbled among themselves. Lt Ralph Clarke was the first whinging Pom.
The only officers I think were decent men were Captain Watkin Tench and Lt William Dawes. Governor Arthur Philip was OK I guess.

@Marc

Grace gave Smuggy the exact amount of respect he was due, the LNP has done nothing about sexual assault cases and boosting funding, or even showing some respect for women. Why should she smile? Anyway, the man knows no shame.
