The Down Under Lounge

your description once of the way you have vegemite was horror inducing :).

My pic of PERFECTION is on the first page of the thread.. honestly the uneven lashings is a thing of joy in the mouth.

As to sandwich meats, I know them as mortadella here. I never eat it but I recently had home made mortadella and it was very very good. I've had the american baloney, the fake flavour is more flavourful than aus devon I think.

The real mystery to me is chicken loaf. Whyyyyy...

I am currently listening to ‘Eureka’ by Peter Fitzsimons which is of course about the Eureka Stockade. I must admit his books are well researched but he certainly meanders quite a bit.

For some reason I thought mortadella was a cheese but I guess it comes from the combination of mortadella and chesse in sandwich aka mortadella cheese sandwich.

I'm a bit confused here.

Adults and children have to social distance when out in the street and on weekends but at school it's OK for kids to gather in groups and sit in classrooms. Scomo said schools are now exempt from social distancing.

Does the virus stop moving inside schools all of a sudden?

FitzSimons is an arrogant, self-righteous, know-all arsehole. He does spin a decent yarn, I suppose, but he's such an utter dickhead I don't bother reading anything he writes these days. I certainly have no intention of buying any of his books. To each their own, though.

I have to say I'm surprised and impressed at how governments at all levels have dealt with the current situation here. The reaction seems to be (mostly) guided by science and facts, which is pretty mind-boggling considering some of the people involved. I imagine Dutton's experience will make no impact and he'll remain a racist arsehole when it's all over, but on the whole it's been amazingly good IMO. I imagine the mileage of others will vary, but eh.

This is the first book I have read by Fitzsimons. I read it as part of a challenge for a library group I belong to. The topic was ‘Riot, Rebellion, Uprising’. I wish I had picked the book about the women of the Eureka Stockade instead.
I don’t know much about Peter Fitzsimon’s himself. looking though my books I do own a second book by him Then Catalpa Rescue’.

I downloaded the Covid Safe app. People who are worried it is giving the government too much info, it has given the government my name and phone number which I'm pretty sure they already have

Anyway. Half my family can't use the app because they have older (android) phones. So that's pretty stupid. I probably need this app less than other people since I'm not leaving the house but at least I know if I have to go to the post office and someone is close to me and that someone has the virus I will get a notification eventually, unless of course that person doesn't have a NICE NEW PHONE which in my area is probably 50% of people. Stupid.

The app also needs your bluetooth always on so not sure I'm keen on that because bluetooth is a battery killer even in idle mode. I'm really not sure it's worth the download.

The library is my friend.

I was listening to Fitzsimons on the ABC radio podcast Conversations, talking about Cook. Quite interesting. What makes you say he's an arsehole? What did you hear him say or do?

I see the logies have been cancelled for this year.

surprised they are still around. seem to recall they were getting pretty dire before I left Australia.
