Hmmm... perhaps Canada hoards them all.

(Sorry for barging into your thread! :D )

having bought bacon flavoured chips for the wife on occassion the conclusion can only be - if Australians want bacon flavored chips they can have them.

the rest of us will just eat the bacon the way god intended.

and found this elsewhere.

The economic impact of the coronavirus has hit Rupert Murdoch’s media empire, leading it to consider laying off some Coalition MPs and perhaps even selling off some of the MPs it owns.

An Australian friend brought me some kangaroo jerky when she visited. I didn't like it, but I don't like any jerky. I'd be interested to try non-jerkied roo.

Question for people, Australian and otherwise, who've tried both Vegemite and Marmite. I love Marmite, but didn't like the Vegemite the same friend brought over. However I've heard many people say they think it tastes the same. What's your opinion?

I’m Australian. I’m no fan of marmite. To me it tastes like burnt vegemite.

@Mary Ann it's been years since I've had Marmite. Vegemite is fine when spread thin. But my go-to for that kind of thing is very unAustralian - Promite, which I think is a NZ product.

Wow. This thread is on par with ABC for leftist nonsense. Over 200 hundred pages and other than the odd reference to vegemite or Crocodile Dundee, it’s the same old far left talking points and complaints. I expected a primarily left reception on a Star Trek page but wow, above and beyond.

Give me a bell when the echo chamber gets boring and you go back to talking about Australia instead of Labor activism.

Talking about Australian politics is still talking about Australia. If someone says something political you disagree with, you can always argue with them or ignore them. :)

I know you're new here, so please just consider this a friendly warning. Your post is slipping into trolling territory. We're all allowed to have our own political viewpoints, but we can disagree civilly and debate the issues without getting personal against the other side. Thank you.

I couldn’t disagree more. If you can validate respective political viewpoints then you can respect a single comment expressing a perspective on non constructive aspersions through countless pages.

My valid complaint is that instead of Australia related content (political or not) there is an inordinate amount of hateful language. I’m not even contrary to most of the opinions just the sour echo chamber.

I’m more than happy to leave this site at your request but I am not content to have reasonable assertions classified as arbitrary harassment.

If our newbie had looked closely at the antics of the LNP over the last 7 years, he might change his mind. What is being expressed here is anger that the policies of said govt hurt most of us, and mostly benefit their rich mates, literally.

Thank you so much for raising your anti wealth and anti Liberal party sentiments on my behalf as inaccurate as they may be. I’m not angry at all nor is my complaint in defence of the Liberal party. Your post modern concepts of wealth and welfare have no support except insofar as they conflict with the intersectional ‘religion’.

This newbie is quite informed on politics, so your articulations are going to require more than comments like ‘if he looked, he’d change his mind’ platitudes. I’m open to any specific topics that you feel raise your assertions.

You are definitely allowed to disagree with the contents of posts. However, it does matter how you frame your response.

TrekBBS Rules said:
No trolling. This means don't post stuff that you know will enrage someone in hopes of getting them to flame you back. This does NOT mean a contrary opinion.

Dog-whistle phrases like "leftist nonsense" and "sour echo chamber" are not constructive, and can be considered trolling. The rule of thumb here is "post, not poster", which means you can disagree with the contents of the post all you want, but you cannot impugn the person making the post. In this case, you didn't reply to any specific points raised in any of the posts in order to counter them, you just issued a blanket condemnation of all the posters in the thread.

No one is asking you to leave. We have many people here with differing viewpoints, and all are welcome. However, we are all guests here, and as guests, we need to follow the rules of our host. That means treating others civilly and with respect, even if we may not see eye-to-eye with them on various issues.

That sounds reasonable and I can accept those criticisms. I’ll be mindful of those sort of disparaging generalisations in the future. I appreciate you treating it fairly.

I love Promite while my son only likes Vegemite so I have to buy both.

I love all mites. Aussie mite is pretty great, Dick Smith's mite.. not sure if it exists. Promite is sweeter than vegemite. Marmite varies between countries. I only buy vegemite but I've eaten them all happily. However unlike @Australis I enjoy lashing of the mite on the toast in big, uneven streaks with lots of butter.

As to roo, just had some roo steak tonight @Mary Ann with a fry up of tomatoes and mushrooms. I only like really dry jerky, that rubbery stuff is blech. But yeah, roo is DELICIOUS as steak, mince, sausages.. it's a very tasty meat. I don't think jerky works to judge any meat in general.

Yes. There aren't any topic rules for the thread other than general board rules. We can talk about anything we like, Australian or otherwise. It's a chat thread that we also dump Aus specific discussions into.

The thread is anything Australian. I can days without saying anything, as I kind got bored of politics lately. Plus busy doing other things.

On the topic of promite - I'd rather have vegemite, but I don't have it that often either.

your description once of the way you have vegemite was horror inducing :)

Next time I have, really should get my father-in-law to try it as he eats just about anything.

I know the wife doesn't like it but she had eas roo and fritz (devon for non-South Australians).

Lashings of butter is key

Really like devon, but don't tell me what's in it.

When I was at school, we had a favourite thing. Get a devon roll (devon on bread roll), a sausage roll, and tomato sauce. Stick the sossroll in the devon roll, add sauce. Nothing better.

Also love devon with Fountain Spicy Red sauce, which is kind of tomato/capsicum, I think. Recommended.

nope :)

I've never looked in what goes into Fritz and as you say better not :)

In North America they have bologna which is similar (and expensive - about $CA13 a kg) which I started to like. then I looked at what was in it. Not so keen on it now.

Though I found Fritz was best as a once in while thing otherwise I got sick of it real quick. Dad could never eat it. When he came out from England as boy in 53, he had Fritz sandwiches every day and that pretty much killed it for him.

Oh and there was one of thing with Fritz - as little kid getting a free slice from the butcher.
