The Down Under Lounge

not sure why, but the morning murdoch in Adelaide seems to a kick again about MH370 with the usual news corpse quality of stories, running this week starting with tony abbott claiming that it was murder and there was a cover up in the highest levels of the Malaysian govt.

glad I'm able to get around the murdoch paywall (and no I'm not reading the MH370 stories) because then I can read any relevant stories and not contribute to the coffers of a disgusting news outlet.

I avoid Murdoch's tentacles as much as possible. There's also a FB thing going round saying people should actively not purchase any Murdoch media including Foxtel.

This story about the murder suicide in Brisbane of a young family is truly horrific. What an evil cunt that man was. The outpouring of sympathy is pretty big. And ScottyFromMarketing had the brass effrontery to say how terrible it was, when his mate Abbott cut $300m from DV services. Bastards. This is on their hands too.

Thing is they don't see it that way. Cutting funding is seen as a good thing.

It's obvious that the funding cuts are disgraceful, but it's "on the hands" of the people who commit this sort of appalling crime. No one else. Certainly not the women and children (and men) who are the victims, as some (incredibly) appear to believe. Not on politicians, pathetic hypocrites that so many of them are. It's on the perpetrators.

Let's reflect on the fact we're living in a country where there are people who actually believe these sorts of crimes can be excused or justified. That men can be "driven" to do atrocious things like this. I may - just - be able to believe the cop who came up with the "driven" shit expressed himself poorly, but what excuse do people like the Arndt creature have? What excuse is there for the people who believe domestic violence is something women invent? Enough of the politics. It's way past time for concrete action on this issue. There's too much of it happening.

the ABC had an op-ed on exactly that topic.

The author also reminded readers of the extremely odious comments made by the latham back in 2016.

That little boy that was bullied on the news Quaden.... Now online trolls have come out accusing the family of lying and that he's really 18 years old.

Fuck some people are shit.

Woman hires barrister to prosecute DV case after Qld police refused to press charges.

Apparently the police claimed there was a "low level of public interest" in prosecuting someone who threw petrol on his partner and threatened to burn down the house - with her in it. I don't want to know what people have to do before Queensland police reckon there's a sufficient "level of public interest".

What a country we live in.

It's Queensland. Low Intelligence capital of the country

Imagine a Venn diagram, 2 circles, one has boofheads, bogans, knuckledraggers and drunks, the other has right wing christians. There is a lot of overlap about 30-50% AFAIK, but there's plenty who are one and not the other.

I've never been there. I get the impression there's a lot of right wing christians up there, is that the case?

As a Queenslander, I actually don't think those areas of Queensland are any more or less Christian then anywhere else. Remember a lot of those places actually voted more in favour for Marriage Equality then Sydney! Places like the Hills in Sydney would out-church any part of Queensland any day of the week.

But Queensland... especially rural Queensland... I wouldn't say right-wing per se.... but more so bogan populist.

I mean some parts are pretty right-wing I grant you that (Atherton Tablelands without a doubt), but a lot have a long history of mining and other working class industry and have historically been just as willing to support the ALP as the LNP.

Remember the ALP at a state level has tapped in quiet well with a lot of this sentiment. Remember Populism often transends left vs right and is often just people rebelling against what they precive as the established political elites (and at the last election the idea that was roused up was it being inner-city Greenies who wanted to take away their jobs (and associated jobs mining can offer) while those Greenies where drinking champaign in their limosines).

Yeah, I am going into the nauce of politics here, not really the bread-and-butter of a trek board LOL
