What he means is a site you are signed up to for hosting images. I just bung images on my personal webspace as I can't be bothered to actually use that for a website. My ISP gives us all 50mb of space but if it's just images that is tons of space for me.

YES I bought from the australian site. Was the same as buying from the USA site. Even scored the funny "foreign money fee" from my bank. I bought a diy calculator kit

No I bought from the Australian site itself. I only found out the fees from my bank when I checked the transactions as I look on my phone to see pending transactions.

I tested it out today. I put an item in my cart but when I tried to pay it told me that Amazon does not ship to Australia and told me to use Amazon AU instead.
The item was $14.26 on the US site (before postage) but $AUD49.55 with free delivery on the AU site. Even allowing for currency conversion, postage from the USA and GST it seems to me that the AU price is too high.

It's blatant price gouging. They're on a winner here with the captive market we have.
I just purchased some magnetic screwdrivers so once it hits my bank I'll check if I am still being charged the foreign transaction fee. THAT part of it should not happen if it's an AU site.
I just checked. I can get the same product on Etsy for a total of $AUD23.20, including both GST and postage from the UK. It just shows how overprice Amazon AU is.
OK I just checked my order and it was priced in Australian dollars this time around. The previous order was not so not sure why that happened.

I gather that it is a trial that is starting in October not a full blown system.
I read an interesting article on the problems with biometric identification. One of the biggest problems has been with telling identical twins apart. One journalist proved that one system could not tell him and his twin brother apart. Also one US Department of Motor Vehiclees refused to issue licences to two twin sisters because the program insisted that they were one person only.
Edited to add - to accurately tell all identical twins apart a system would have to include at least one of the following 1) fingerprints 2) iris recognition 3) ear shape. Without these seems the younger the twins the harder it is for a system to tell them apart.
