The Down Under Lounge

Here's an Xmas present for you all:

Speaking of politics... can someone explain Utopia to me?

Aside from the leads, I want to prod everyone in that office with something spiky and tell them to get their heads out of their collective arse. If our government is really run like that (and I suspect there are strong elements of truth), no wonder we struggle with the most mundane tasks.

When I say explain it, I mean, explain why is it funny? The sheer level of ineptitude infuriates me.

Old man rant over.

BUT! LOL tony abbott mark down haha only 2.95 !! almost worth while as toilet paper

I'm not sure I could bring my self to do that - it would be even more painful than abbott as p.m

I have relatives who always by the best and softest loo paper - it was the result of using the Adelaide Advertiser as toilet paper when growing up in the 1930s. As it stands today that paper isn't even worth using for loo paper.

The Utopia I refer to is on the ABC, made by Working Dog. Rob Sitch is Tony, head of the Nation Building Authority, a Govt branch dedicated to, I suppose, future infrastructure. Tony and one of his staff, Natalie, struggle against incompetence, waste, and career narcissism. There are funny bits, but, fuck, if our Govt, I want to set about them with a baseball bat, and that's what worries me, it's closer to the truth than I think.

They also did one some years back which was more about the Labor party but can't remember what it was called. I haven't seen Utopia but if it's anything like the predecessor yeah it probably cuts close to bone.

It's hilarious that South Australia sees the new year before Queensland.

Happy new year, all. 70 minutes till I'm in the future.

^ True. I was in Queensland yesterday, as my siblings and Dad, are still there. When 2018 occurs I should be asleep. Just over a hour now.

I have just had an enjoyable visit from my friend Trudi and her wife, Alison.

Trudi left Australia 17 years ago to meet Alison who she befriended online. Though it was only meant to be a holiday she and Alison fell in love and Trudi stayed in America illegally. She said no-one really worried about her being an illegal because she was white and an Australian. She said that was a horrible fact that people only oppose illegal immigrants who are not white.

She married Alison when gay marriage became legal in Oregon and she applied for her Green Card which she received about 4 months before Trump was elected. Because she had a Green Card she was finally able to leave the US knowing she would be allowed back in.

They both loved MONA :)

Wow she is very lucky she wasn't deportred during some point in that green card application.

I would love to visit MONA. Glad you had a nice visit, how long are they in Tassie for?

They arrived a few days before Christmas and will be here until the 15th of January. They Are freight brokers so it seems that they can work online while the are here. They work in the mornings and site see/visit in the afternoon.

They were a little disappointed that the poo machines are no longer at MONA.

I received a $125 check from the Tas Government today. The government owned power company (Aurora) made more profit than they expected to so they are giving all account owners who have a pensioner concession card an ‘special energy bonus’.

Our power company is a monopoly.

I wanted to see the poo at MONA !!

Though it seems unlikely I'll get to Tasmania. Waiting for some relative to move there or something for a reason to go.

Oh nice on the check @Miss Chicken ! My power bills are horror shows, so I'm sure it's bittersweet. But "free" money yay.

Going to be 42 here today.

I think Tasmania makes a bob or two exporting power to South Australia and Victoria during heatwaves.
