Ha. The discussion there about the morality of VPN'ing international netflix was amusing. Sorry guys, that ball is long gone.

Hopefully CBS all access is a long way off for us then. I don't want to lose trek cause dvd's really are a pain.

With CBS acquiring Ch10, how long do you think that will be?

@Miss Chicken yay team! They sportsed well!

What about Abbott's brain fart to send in the troops to take over gasfields? He's seriously losing it.

WIN! WIN! WIN!!! By 48 points.

MIss Chicken is jumping for joy.

In my mum's quilting class there's a woman who's very much a fairweather Crows fan. Wouldn't shut as they marched through the finals etc but now they've been clobbered in the grand final she will be very quiet.

Mum is a Port fan so she won't be shedding any tears but will be happy this other women will have been shut up :)

Back in March 2011 I posted the following in a thread in Misc

One day - hopefully before I die - Richmond will rise from the ashes like a phoenix and once again be the great team which they used to be.

My sister, who lives in Adelaide, is a Crow supporter. She has not yet said anything on my victory post on Facebook.

So, any thoughts on the new security database? Basically all photo license images will be stored and used against facial recognition software. Very Person of Interest, very Big Brother, IMO.

I'm undecided. Technically it is a change of process not a change of access. They can currently access the same photos it just takes days. If it is limited to airports then I'm ok with it. Am I confident it will be limited to airports? No.

I'm more concerned that police now have the right to detain someone for questioning without charge for 14 days if they are an "extremists". Who decides who is an extremist? The police it seems. No oversight at all. They can claim anyone is an extremist. Either they have evidence or they don't. If they don't, then it should be dealt with as under current law.

What about those people who do not have a license?

In S.A they have a Proof of Age card that's issued from the same place you get your driver's license so it's on government record. Other states might have something similar

I suspect these records would also get handled over.

You're not required to get a proof of age card but it comes in handy, except it doesn't have an address. So say I need to pick up something from the Post Office that has hubby's name on it. I have to take my proof of age card and a power bill or something with our names and address on it.

I have a state issued photo ID card that I got when I knew I was taking a flight, my youngest son also has one for the same reason. However my other son, my best friend and her sister have no photo ID card at all.

So the database will be accessible for any offence with a 3+ year sentence.

The question is, do photos from non-renewed cards remain in the system?

I know it comes at a cost, but I always think it is a good idea to keep a current passport.

To restate: the database of faces attached to facial recognition software so that you can be followed everywhere.

Some years ago (that TI and Refuge might be too young to remember) the Govt (and this was the one on the left) wanted to bring in what was called the Australia Card, a single number that combined tax file no, SSN and Medicare no and driver's license, with a photo, that any branch of Govt could use. It was viewed as a gross invasion of privacy and eventually dropped. What the current Govt is proposing is the first step in a digital version of that.

Hawke went do a double dissolution election over and came out an unchanged senate. Now if only he'd had have run a scare campaign on why it was needed.

The concept isn't anything new (see the U.S social security number and Canada's SIN number) but neither of those carry a photo with.

Having a quick read on wiki seems like after opposing it in the 80s, later on the lying rodent and his government would in favour of the card in the mid 2005s under the "security" banner.

On the other hand in Ontario we all have health cards which carry a photo but can't be used for ID.

So I've been thinking about stable tables. Does everyone remember them? There used to be endless late night ads, before you could have late night phone sex ads I think.. about these really boring looking plastic rectangles with a bean bag bottom so you could put it on your lap etc.. and use the surface. They were all very ugly. The term was apparently an aus thing?

So i want a small one that is NOT beige like they all were, maybe a square, enough for one cup of tea on it with a biscuit, to have on my bed to stop being tempted to put food and little sake cups on my laptop which I know is bad and can only lead to a disaster.

i looked them up on ebay and they seemingly only exist as footy accessories which is not gelling with personal aesthetic.
