The Down Under Lounge

The news tonight said that while he was on fire he was running up to people and hugging them. :( I hope not.

OK one news item last night said he was upset he didn't get a welfare payment. He was sending the money back home to family in Myamar.

Just back from the hospital, had a cataract removed. Not fun but then my son has been through worse so... I no complain...

Hope you are feeling better son, Australis.

I now have hearing aids but I have to break them gradually, only a couple of hours per day to start with.

Because I am a pensioner I got them for nothing but I had to pay just over $40 to join the maintainance program which covers batteries etc.

I had to pay a gap with my health fund covering the rest when I had my eyes done in 2007 but my situation was totally different to you guys. I was born with cataracts so had no actual lenses to remove. I had Verysyse implants put in, they attach to the front of the iris... Well on the right eye but my left eye was slightly smaller so that one is behind the iris in the front chamber of the eye, kept in place by a fine metal spring..

It hasn't improved my vision at all..... Same as what I had with thick bifocals, only the change has been cosmetic and I still have to wear reading glasses. for books and computers, and another pair for everything else but that one is thin..

ooo, Jehovah's Witnesses are going to get it in the neck!

It also looked at evidence from case files that recorded reports or complaints of abuse by just over 1,000 Jehovah's Witnesses.

The commission found children are not adequately protected from the risk of sexual abuse and the organisation does not respond adequately to allegations.

It noted the group's rule — which states officials cannot accept an accusation of wrongdoing unless there are two witnesses — showed a serious lack of understanding of the nature of child sexual abuse.
Because like, you know, predators go around in twos...

And by that measure, we shouldn't believe a word Moses told us. Where was his 2nd witness?

I think they'll be harder to reform as far as changing the culture than the Catholic hierarchy.

There needs to be severe consequences to people not reporting.

So what are people's opinions on the LNP govt here in Australia?

I never liked Abbott but Turnbull just makes me think old big ears is missed. At least when he made a gaffe it was definitely a gaffe. With Turnbull he has the gift of the gab and so can talk for hours and not make a point.

Also why is this republic stuff on the agenda again?

Is that seriously the most important issue of the nation?

25th anniversary of the Australian Republican Movement. Turnbull gave a speech at their celebratory dinner. Of course the ARM is going to make a noise about it.

The Coalitions? Bunch of drop kicks. More interested in money than the good of Australians, unless they're buddies. Labor ain't much better, though.

In more recent years Labor have tried to be the "Coalition Me 2" party so yeah I can agree with that. But if the polls keep lagging will they ditch Turnbull and install Abbott again?

Wouldn't that be hilarious?
