The Down Under Lounge

Oh yes! :) I might be straight, but I want to write for it! I too own every issue of SFX.

Re: arts. Yep, that's what I was trying to say about the dole. The only better way I can thinkl to do it would be some kind of music college for the unemployed, liek they do with Work for the Dole, give theior skills and desires some structure.

Further to that, it isn't just science degrees that build the economy - film makers don't just come here because it's cheaper, but because of the skillsets. Thta's what we need to build on. But arts sometimes don't produce quantifiable results in the short term, or in some cases the long term. That's the problem when trying to apply a business model to it.

When I was on the SFX forum, being the lone voice talking about Outland, one of the staffers told me they actually created that cover specially for the show.

10 brownie points for working random TWOK reference into discussion of public broadcaster.

N.B. Not actual brownies.

Pyne has also dropped interest on HECS fees. That should never have come up in the first place, when other countries have worked out how to do free tertiary education. How hard is it to figure out? The smarter and more qualified the people, the better quality of work, the a greater GDP. Yeah, that's a bit simplistic, but I thiunk it's true, as long as you're not getting a MA in basket weaving.

One of the Palmer United Senators got stuck into Pyne over his behaviour which if you or I did that to some-one we'd probably have the cops on our doors to talk to about the offence of harrassment.

But pyine is nothing but a pathetic little shit. He's nver had a job outside of politics and never had to pay for his tertiairy education (like most of his other colleagues hell bent on supposed reforms).

The coalition rusted ons on another forum like to trot out the line that it was Labor that introduced Hecs in the first place. Yes they did but a) they weren't MPs who had gone through uni for free, b) it started off at $2000 a year. It was the Libs who've send the fees into orbit and want to do even more damage.

I've always resented Keating for doing that, even at that low rate. I might be Labor oriented, but I think Keating is a shit of a human being.

At least he never wiped out the car manufacturing industry in Australia to appease the Chinese for an FTA.

There's also an argument to be made that the Abbott & Co don't want the replacement subs for the navy to go to tender because Australia is going to buy them as part of another trade agreement but with the Japanese.

If I think that of Keating, just imagine what I think of Abbot...

Brought at BigW before and they actually offer quite competitive pricing for games versus EB, at least in terms of console gaming.

Surprised that this kind of thing didn't happen when the game first came out, seems a bit odd a year later. Can't say I really care. Not into GTA, but some of the claims about it seem grandiose about it shaping men into violent offenders. The game is R18 so I'd hope that the people who choose to play the game would be able to separate out games and life.

I saw some of the rage on their facebook page. I have zero interest in playing the game. I know the game is over a year old.

I remember seeing a teenager getting his mother to buy for him last year. I didn't say anything, but wondered if the mother knew what this game was ... and that it shouldn't be played by a 15 year old.

Though I saw a video that some-one had made playing GTAV and it is a bit disputing.

One minute you're picking up a prostitute, then she's in the car giving you a blowjob before getting out a which point you shoot her dead.

So where does everyone here live? I somehow get the impression I'm the only one from Sydney.

Today i bought some Arnott's Tim Tams from the Reject Shop for only 95c. I opened the packet up and ate one at the bus-stop and it was vile. I looked more carefully at the packet and noticed that it was the Indonesian version of Tim Tams. Gross.

Edited to answer eyeresist's question - I live in Hobart.
