Tell ya what where are most of our consumer goods made?
If you can find a better alternative for that I'm all ears.
I don't trust them either but where else can the West go to make their goods?

Oh and I own a huawei phone so I must be bad.

Not bad, just... unwise. (I own a Nokia.)

    Answer: India.

Watch that doco I linked again. China avoids India with its Belt and Road Initiative, because they know India, with its massive population, can become an alternative and competing source of good and services. It would require investment, education and a little guidance, but India could be a real powerhouse against China. And, because Australia and India are in the Commonwealth and have a common history in war and peace, they might trust us more and we could benefit with a better presence in South East Asia.

I'll watch that doco. But the thing is the West is addicted to China for their consumer goods, so weaning them off that will be a hard sell.

Yeah, I know, it's a tough one. We've gotta find a way out of that.

Throughout this Covid-19 pandemic, Tasmania have been accused of not pulling their weight because we have not been receiving any international flights. Among those who complained was my own sister who lives in Adelaide. These complainers seemed to overlooked the fact that Tasmania did not have an international airport so could not receive international flights. They seemed oblivious to the fact that Tasmania had for many years missed out on having many international tourists, conventions etc, that the lack of an international airport was a financial disadvantage for us.

This month, phase 1 of Hobart airport upgrade was completed and the first international flight for 22 years occurred. A flight arrived from India, the first of three flights that will be coming from India to Tasmania.

Back in the 1980s and 1990s when Tasmania had ‘international flights’ those international flights consisted of a couple of flights a week from New Zealand, that was it.

When this pandemic is over I bet there will be some who will accuse Tasmania of poaching international tourists from other states.

BTW so far four people on the flight from India have tested positive to Covid-19 while in quarantine.

Had to admit I wouldn't have thought Tasmania would get enough international travellers that would go direct to justify the costs - both of building an international airport and for airlines to fly direct.

I believe the plan is/was to have direct flights mainly from New Zealand and from China.

They believed a con-artist salesman, and Rupert backed him.

Not that I have even the most remote interest in going to WA at all, never mind any time soon, but could someone inform the WA premier and co that NSW doesn't consist entirely of Sydney and therefore a state-wide travel ban is utterly bloody stupid?

If Covid-19 has proved anything, it's proved absolutely that Australia is a nation in name only. (I never needed proof of this, but anyway.)

Tasmanians are complaining because it looks like the Sydney to Hobart race is still on. The major complaint is that many of the yachties live in the Northern Beaches region and therefore it is seen as the richest people being treated differently than the rest of Australians and that if the yachties do not go into quarantine when they arrive it is putting Tasmanians at risk. The second complaint is that if they go into quarantine they are taking quarantine places away from other Australians who could be returning from overseas.

Surely the race could be abandoned for one year?

The Tasmanian government has just put a ban on anyone who lives in the Northern Beaches region, or who has visited the Northern Beaches in the last few days, from entering Tasmania. This will affect about 150 yachtsmen which is about 1/3 of the fleet.

A few minutes ago it was announced that the race has been cancelled, the first time it has been cancelled in the 76 years history of the race.

A good decision. They can always run the race later or postpone till 2021
