The Defenders--Marvel/Netflix

Afaik - the following have all been announced.

Punisher S1 (Fall 2017)
Jessica Jones S2
Luke Cage S2
Daredevil S3

I'd imagine that the announcement of Season 2 of Iron Fist won't be far off - it's reportedly had one of the biggest openings out of the five seasons so far, second only to Luke Cage if reports are to be believed. Now, whether some of them were watching just to see if it was as bad as the critics were saying or not, that's still pretty impressive - now whilst it took less than two weeks for Daredevil to be renewed for a second season, it took them almost four months to announce Daredevil Season 3, just over one month to order Jessica Jones Season 2 and two months to order Luke Cage Season 2. We could be seeing an IF S2 announcement any time between the end of March and the end of July (am guessing they'll build this into the Defenders press junkets).

I'd rather see a Heroes for Hire and/or Daughters of the Dragon series than another Iron Fist season, I think. I saw a comment today on Comic Book Resources that Danny in the comics has always made a better sidekick than a lead. That's sort of the feeling I got from the show -- that he was basically like Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China, a sidekick who thought he was the hero.

I would also prefer a Heroes for Hire and Daughters of the Dragon combination show. Such a scenario would feature four strong characters (well, if they write Danny better) and could potentially tighten up the obvious weaknesses both shows have. I seem to recall Mike Colter saying he liked that idea (I think it was him).

Combining Iron Fist and Luke Cage's storylines into one show might also help with that whole issue almost every Netflix season has had with feeling like there wasn't enough plot to fill the whole 13-episode order, too.

The Immortal Iron Fist series by Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker and David Aja was excellent.

The CBR article I referred to did specifically mention that series, but it said:

First, as much as we like Danny Rand, he’s never really had the drawing power to headline his own series. Even when the writing and art are on point, as it was in 2009’s “The Immortal Iron Fist,” by Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction and David Aja (among others), fan interest seems to fade after an initial increase in popularity. Second, Danny works better as a sidekick. Whether partnered up with Luke Cage or as a team player as a member of the Avengers, Danny Rand is better when he has a friend or two around to hide his blandness.

Actually, I think Luke Cage and Daredevil were better for handling multiple story lines. Nobody expects 22 episode network shows to devote every episode to a single story. These are "seasons" and I like the idea of a thirteen episode season progressing rather than dealing with the same story.

It's not as though Netflix doesn't make shorter-than-13-episode seasons. Bloodline S2 was 10 eps, down from S1's 13. So they could always make shorter seasons if they wanted.

Sure. Hell, The Defenders is only 8 episodes. I guess they felt "obligated" to give each show 13 episodes after doing so for Daredevil.

If I recall correctly, the original announcement before Daredevil even entered production mentioned four 13 episode seasons, one for each character and an 8 episode Defenders crossover after that.

So I think they were more obliged by the contract they signed, rather than Daredevil ;)

There are enough interesting side stories in the Iron Fist Netflix series to justify another season, but the lead is so weak and uninteresting that I think he will ruin another 10 or 13 episode season.

All the more reason to do a Daughters of the Dragon series instead and have Danny become the sidekick in Luke Cage.

Apparently Netflix posted this on youtube but then pulled it:

But there are a couple copies up now, we'll see if they last.

Of note, the security footage ends at 8/18/2017. Just checked the calendar. Augst 18 is a Friday, so that's the likely release date for Defenders season 1.

So we got this crazy group of people at Midland Circle Financial. Some crazy guy wearing a tie and a stocking over his head. Some crazy dude with bullet holes in his jacket. Iron Fist looking winded. (Hey, he's the only one of the 4 who's trained his whole life to fight the Hand, right?) ANd Jessica Jones looking like the most sane and calm member of the bunch.

Note the ip in the upper corner:
23.253.120.81

also newsworthy:

-Jessica Jones season 2 apparently started filming yesterday

-Charlie Cox said that he is going to film DD season 3 in the fall

So the current Marvel Netflix schedule seems to be:
-Defenders (August 18, 2017)
-Punisher (late 2017)
-Jessica Jones season 2 (early 2018)
-Daredevil season 3 (mid or second half of 2018)

So the question now is whether we'll get a third 2018 show or not.

Nice video.

Good catch on the time stamp. I bet your supposition is correct and might be why Netflix pulled it, i.e. not ready to announce the release date for marketing reasons.

If we do get a third show in 2018, it'll be Luke Cake. Still hoping for a Heroes for Hire variation.

Okay, now I totally want to see a show about an invulnerable hero whose power is baking and decorating cakes. He could call himself... the Flour Man. He could have a team-up with stir-crazy Rip Hunter!

Well, that's one hell of a typo (I don't know how I did that...), but I glad you made good use of it.
