They wouldn't have the bulletproof tissue under the shirt that could take the impact, which is where the real damage is done. Since he is pretty regularly using himself as a shield and getting his clothing torn to shreds though, a tight yellow vibranium-weave v-neck would keep him from having to restock constantly. If those exist, seems like an even better choice for the other three Defenders.
I found myself wondering if we'll actually hear the name "Defenders" in the show, and if so, who will coin the term?
^ Eh, I'd rather they didn't go there...I never thought the name "The Avengers" was to be taken literally, in or out of comics.
Tony Stark said this in the movieYeah, I never quite got why they were called that.
It's the closest thing to an explanation.Tony Stark: You're missing the point! There's no throne, there is no version of this where you come out on top. Maybe your army comes and maybe it's too much for us but it's all on you. Because if we can't protect the Earth, you can be damned well sure we'll avenge it!
Because the Wasp thought it sounded colorful and dramatic...and so did Stan.Yeah, I never quite got why they were called that.
My interpretation for that is the idea behind for the initiative was to have a group of enhanced that could hit back if SHIELD ever got blindsided by something they couldn't see coming. I mean by definition "avenging" is not a proactive concept, right?Yeah, there was literally no comic book explanation. The movie did a much better job with explaining it if you ignore that it was already called "The Avengers Initiative" long before the justification.
More to the point: he's the only one with a secret identity. Will Daredevil be the only one with a costume?
That's the thing, I never really bought into the movie's attempt to explain/justify the name...that's a detail that I prefer to squint past.
I preferred not to even put that kind of thought into it, because trying to make the name literally meaningful was a cheesy move, IMO.If you mean Tony's line about avenging Coulson in The Avengers, I never took that explaining the name, since of course the name had existed since the first movie. I just took it as Tony (and Whedon) using the already-established Avengers name to add resonance to his threat to Loki -- i.e. it's not just a label anymore, now it really means something to us and we intend to live up to it.
