The DEADPOOL Movie Anticipation Thread

I'm not that familiar with character but everything I've seen so far looks like a lot of fun! Plus I don't know why he gets so much shit (well it's the internet, duh) but I really like Ryan Reynolds, even in bad movies he does a decent job.

There are actors who people simply love to hate even if most of the time it's unfounded and i think Reynolds is one of them.

He's been in some pretty dumb movies but every once in a while he makes one that is just plain good acting. He's having a good career i think but he's capable of more if given the right script, it remains to be seen if he wants to branch out at one point or if he is content on doing his usual movie types.

I've no special affection for the character (only read a handful of random comics in which he appears) but I'm really interested to see what they do with this. This is the first 18/r-rated comic book film since the Dredd movie a few years back, but unlike Dredd, this is a comedy and appears to be in shared continuity with the X-Men movies.
It will be interesting to see what becomes of this. It will be by far the most adult thing to take place in one of the big comic book movie/TV shared universes. The Daredevil and Jessica Jones Netflix series go pretty far, a lot farther than any previous Marvel Studio productions, but even they weren't at this level.

^"Adult" isn't the term I'd use to describe this since the humour is *very* juvenile.
A more appropriate way to put it is that it's the most obscene superhero movie in a while. The closest comparison would probably be the Kick-Ass movies, but even that's it's own thing. 'Jessica Jones' & 'Daredevil' aren't even on the same spectrum as this.

I saw the red band trailer yesterday and I'm definitely seeing it in the theater. He's very much the merc with a mouth from the comics.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead is such a cutie.

I hope this film does awesome. Reynolds deserves a hit.

The Red Band trailer was very entertaining. Its cool that, even if its only a small scene, Colossus gets some lines and at least a little screen time, unlike how in X-Men 3 he was basically just a prop that only existed to throw Wolverine in an action scene. The girl is unusual (she's a character in name only of a z-list background mutant from the comics) but interesting. But, Deadpool himself seems perfect. I hope this does well. I think it will be good or even great, but its so different for a "superhero" movie I hope it finds an audience of more than just pre-established Deadpool fans.

It's still very early and there aren't a lot of reviews out yet, but this summary of the reviews out already looks promising:
Hitfix: "I'll just marvel at the fact that Fox finally grew the jooblies to let this film happen."

We Got This Covered: "With Fox's Deadpool movie, a new superhero icon has been born, and he just tea-bagged us all."

Chris Stuckmann: "Justice has finally been done to the "Merc with a Mouth." Is it the next Citizen Kane? No. Is it the perfect Deadpool movie? You bet."

Slant Magazine: "The whiplash contrasts between snideness and sincerity are deeply rooted in the main character's psychology."

CinemaBlend
: "Deadpool is a blissfully unique and hilarious action-packed blockbuster that stands as one of the best big-screen superhero origin stories that we've had the pleasure of seeing."

Examiner: "While there have been other R-rated comic book movies and even superhero sex scenes (hello Watchmen!), none revel in it quite like Deadpool does."

TheWrap: "It's a film that's amused with itself, but thanks to a screwball screenplay by Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick and a charmingly snarky lead turn by Ryan Reynolds, that amusement is both thoroughly earned and completely contagious."

Looking at other reviews that we've spotted outside of Rotten Tomatoes, they all appear to be positive as well.

Entertainment Weekly: "Reynolds and his character are a blast of laughing gas in a genre that tends to take itself way too seriously."

The Hollywood Reporter: "It takes a little while to get in gear — or perhaps just to adjust to what's going on here — but once it does, Deadpool drops trou to reveal itself as a really raunchy, very dirty and pretty funny goof on the entire superhero ethos, as well as the first Marvel film to irreverently trash the brand."

Variety: "Ryan Reynolds gets the full-throttle wisecracking showcase he deserves in this scabrously funny origin story."

And of course, Comicbook.com's own review: "Deadpool is simply what fans have been dying for, and it's clear in every moment that it was made by hardcore fans, too."

I wouldn't say the Marvel films, for example, take themselves way too seriously. Several of them have succeeded more as comedies than as action films, though not with R-rated material.

I'll be seeing at the weekend. I haven't read any of the comics but I am excited to see this.

Roshi has seen The Deadpool.

He liked it! It's not going to reshape the comicbook movie world but holy shit that was funny!

WHAM!

I give it a solid 8 out of 10. My thumbs are up, and I'm smiling. My advice? Go and see Deadpool.

 Unless some rescheduling miracle occurs, my plans to see DP this Saturday are in the crapper. I have to wait another full week before next opportunity. :scream:

Yeah a very funny movie. The decision to pitch for an older audience was very wise. I didn't really like Colossus in that he was very much a caricature so I think Cudmore was right to step aside. It is very clearly not the Colossus from the existing X-franchise.

There were a couple of very stupid moments that seemed unintentionally dumb, such as the inexplicable assumption that Wade had developed a healing factor. It was on par with a bullet to the brain being guaranteed to cause memory loss and that offended me. On balance though most of the dumb stuff was supposed to be dumb and was therefore riotously funny.

Eh, the Cudmore Colossus has almost zero personality anyway. No big loss. But I get what you mean, this Rasputin is written very much for the comedy of it all.

I wish the X-Flix uniforms were closer to the syle of Nega's in Deadpool. Amazing what a difference adding one color makes. And great post-credits scene too. Loved it.

Just got back from the movie (yay for already having the day off!), and it was pretty damn good. Though maybe not as funny as the movie thinks it is, I enjoyed it regardless.
While I liked that the movie wasn't your typical superhero fare, I was hoping for something better than the standard trope of the damsel in distress for the climatic battle scene.

I just saw the movie.

I don't know much about the character and didn't even know it was opening today but I went and had a great time. It's definitely not just another comic book movie. Non-stop comedy and action, and the R-rating helps.

I've always liked Ryan Reynolds. Count me in as someone who doesn't know why he isn't liked. He's always had great comedic timing. He doesn't make use of it here but he's very witty. I heard that he was supposed to do a full frontal but no such luck. I was disappointed. That's the only reason I went to this thing. Just kidding. He does make use of his comedic timing.

I didn't like what they did with the post credits scene.
It won't hold up well on home video.
