The College Football Thread

Well it looks like O-State is going to win at Manhattan despite the loss of Blackmon and of Blackmon's back up, Hubert Anyam, due to a foot injury--not at all a good thing because the safeties can concentrate on Kendall Hunter. Still, I am not pleased. O-State's defense has committed an ABSURD number of penalties. Two personal fouls on this last drive alone to give K-State 30 yards on a drive that should have been long dead. K-State should'nt even be in the game but they just scored to put it at 24-14.

There was a roughing the passer penalty called on OSU during K-State's last drive and there've been holding calls out the wazoo. O-State coughed up the ball early deep in their own territory, which led to the first K-State touchdown. These two personal fouls helped K-State get their second. Also, O-State special teams got called for clipping when K-State punted earlier. The roughing the passer penalty kept that K-State drive alive until K-State's place kicker choked and missed an easy chip shot field goal. How lucky can O-State be? :wtf:

I'll forgive the offense one fumble since it's in total disarray without Blackmon and Anyam, but the special teams and defense have GOT to be more disciplined than that. Roughing the passer, facemask and two late hit penalties on the defense today. Terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE. If they commit those kind of penalties against a team that isn't as totally inept as K-State (i.e. Baylor, Texas, Oklahoma) they'll get buried.

O-State's special teams just fumbled on the kickoff after the K-State touchdown! Dammit!!  :scream: :scream: Fortunately, blessed, unbelievably, K-State was offsides when it kicked off. See what I mean? If K-State didn't completely and totally suck, O-State would have been done today.

At least I don't feel so bad about getting beat by Nebraska after today. Cripes, who lit the fire under Helu's ass today? :wtf:

Though sloppy and penalty ridden, at least Oklahoma State got it done on the road. All of a sudden I'm glad those Texas Longhorn beaters in Austin otherwise known as the Baylor Bears are coming to Stillwater and not the other way around. Texas wasn't penalty ridden; they're just plain sloppy. One can only hope they have fumble-itis (like they did in tonight's game) when my Cowboys travel to Austin. That would be sweet. It's damn time to get this "can't beat Texas in Austin" monkey off our backs. The Longhorns are no great shakes by any stretch of the imagination.

How the hell they beat Nebraska I'll never know. :wtf:

Well.

Iowa certainly told Michigan State what's what this afternoon.

Well, my Beloved Trojans put up a fight. For most of the game anyway.

That Oregon offense is downright unholy. They score so quickly, it's unbelievable. How do the computers have them 8th in the country??

To my pal Mallory: I know you were watching tonight. Congrats, Mr. Quackers. Enjoy.

And Auburn does it again in Oxford!! WARRRRR-EAGLE!

Seemed like they were protecting Cam Newton some tonight...probably a good idea considering some of the tougher games they still have ahead of them.

Not as many stupid mistakes and penalties, though there still were some. I'm really starting to think they can hold it together enough to at LEAST take the SEC Championship. :D

I was kinda expecting Penn State to push the ball in for a score at the end before I remembered that it's not the kind of thing you're supposed to at a sporting event just because you can.

1 – Oregon (8-0)

Well, now we don't have to hear about USC losing only a pair of last-second games anymore.

2 – Auburn (9-0)

Still winning without defense. That's not gonna get it done over 14 games.

3 – Boise State (7-0)

And they'll drop another notch to the TCU-Utah winner.

4 – Texas Christian (9-0)

Well, we got what we wanted: Undefeated Frogs and Utes.

5 – Utah (8-0)

The BCS is lucky ties no longer exist in college football, because if these guys and Texas Christian finished in one, well ... you'd have to take them and Boise State. Imagine the gnashing of teeth then.

6 – Alabama (7-1)

All they have to do is run the table and they're in the conversation.

7 – Wisconsin (7-1)

Iowa has beaten Michigan State, which beat Wisconsin, which beat Iowa (and Ohio State) ....

8 – Stanford (7-1)

Well, since Oregon blows everybody out ...

9 – Nebraska (7-1)

That first quarter was enough.

10 – Louisiana State (7-1)

That two-headed quarterback is like an ettin.

11 – Missouri (7-1)

At least they got back into it.

12 – Oklahoma (7-1)

I'd really like to see them lose again.

13 – Arizona (7-1)

'Cats still lurking in the tall grass.

14 – Michigan State (8-1)

Now that's the Sparty we all know.

15 – Ohio State (8-1)

The "big" win over Miami has lost almost all its luster, since the 'Canes have looked like crap three or four times now. The only tough squad they played handled 'em.

16 – South Carolina (6-2)

Yet another SEC team that controls its own destiny.

17 – Iowa (6-2)

Tempted to rank Sparty just below 'em, but ....

18 – Oklahoma State (7-1)

To their credit, they've regrouped.

19 – Virginia Tech (6-2)

Still think we'll watch 'em in a BCS bowl. Hell, I'd love to see a rematch with Boise ... and I'm certain the Broncos don't want one, for a myriad of reasons.

20 – Mississippi State (7-2)

Well, I got my wish.

21 – Arkansas (6-2)

Right about now their season goes Deep South.

22 – Nevada (7-1)

Can they hang with Boise? In Reno, I say yes.

23 – North Carolina State (6-2)

Gutsy call to go for the lead late in that game with FSU.

24 – Baylor (7-2)

Huge psychological hurdle for the Bears, but ... what the Hell has happened to Texas?

25 – Florida State (6-2)

Ponder will still be trying to recover that fumble in his sleep.

Well.

Iowa certainly told Michigan State what's what this afternoon.
From what little bit I saw Iowa is looking good. <knocks on wood>

My first thought when I was watching that game was to wonder if this was the beginning of the annual meltdown for Sparty. Not that Iowa wasn't the major cause of it, but the past several years have seen hope turn to dust for Michigan St fans.

55-28 Oklahoma State trounces Baylor in a game that was not as close as the score indicated. :D Oklahoma State's defense was harassing Griffin all day. It was 24-0 at the half. Nearly every sports prognosticator picked OSU to finish last in the Big 12 South.

Last.

One more win (OSU still has lowly Kansas on the schedule) and OSU is guaranteed--at the very worst-- to tie for first in the South. 2 more wins (they have to beat Texas or OU) and they win the South outright. The time to beat Texas is now. I don't care that they haven't beaten them since '98 . This OSU team is flat out good and Texas stinks this year. Time to step up, get the monkey off their backs, and get the job done. Texas stinks this year. The wheels are coming off.

Oh, it does......it does...... Oklahoma State has been the redheaded stepchild in this state for sooooooooo long. Listening to Oklahoma's radio commentators go into post game vapor lock is so very, very entertaining. OU's center snapped the ball over their quarterback's head on the first play from scrimmage, safety Texas A&M :guffaw: :guffaw:

'Grats to the Pokes, y'all deserve it. Though when it comes to redheaded stepchildren of college football, you've got nothing on Baylor, so... ;)

Was glad to see LSU beat 'Bama; now just need the Hogs to beat Crazy Les and (*spit*) the Tides to beat Auburn at the Iron Bowl. And then hopefully the SEC Champion to come out of the East somehow.

Why yes, I am rooting for madness, and for a non-AQ contender in the BCS Championship above all else.

Probably few bothered to watch the USC/ASU game last night (especially on the East Coast), but it was quite entertaining, especially in the second half.

Two interceptions returned for touchdowns, a kickoff return for a touchdown, two blocked punts, two missed field goals from inside 35 yards...

And the margin of victory for the Trojans was......a blocked extra point attempt returned for 2 points.

JM's Top Twenty-Five, Week Ending November 6th, 2010

1 – Oregon (9-0)

They've still got quite a gantlet to run.

2 – Texas Christian (10-0)

They get the edge over Auburn because great defense and a great offense trumps great offense alone.

3 – Auburn (10-0)

I'm now a 'Bama fan. I'd love to see the SEC aced out of the national title game.

4 – Boise State (8-0)

Broncos vs. Frogs for all the marbles. It could happen.

5 – Louisiana State (8-1)

Les Miles' grades: Time management: D–; Team Management: A+. Geaux, Tigers!

6 – Stanford (8-1)

They'd need quite a bit of help to overtake the Ducks.

7 – Wisconsin (8-1)

I wonder if they could bust into the BCS title game conversation by running the table. Ultimately, I don't think so: They don't have Ohio State's name recognition.

8 – Nebraska (8-1)

Inconsistency is going to bite them again.

9 – Michigan State (9-1)

Was the Iowa debacle an aberration? For now, we'll say yes.

10 – Utah (8-1)

I'm fairly certain the TCU debacle was an aberration. Unfortunately, the Utes had zero room for error, and 11-1 will simply get them an also-ran bowl.

11 – Ohio State (8-1)

Dubious distinction: They're the highest-ranked team that hasn't beaten anyone.

12 – Oklahoma State (8-1)

I hope it's not another Cowboys nightmare, in which they do just enough to keep themselves out of the big picture.

13 – Iowa (7-2)

I'd love to see them give the Buckeyes a beatdown.

14 – Alabama (7-2)

Thank goodness they're out of it.

15 – Virginia Tech (7-2)

From off the radar at 0-2 to Top Fifteen. Not bad.

16 – Arkansas (7-2)

I stand corrected. I did not expect them to beat South Carolina.

17 – Oklahoma (7-2)

Got my wish: The Sooners are toast.

18 – Nevada (8-1)

This game with Boise is shaping up to be a good one ... and it's in Reno.

19 – Mississippi State (7-2)

Just seeing 'em in a bowl will be nice.

20 – Arizona (7-2)

Just can't get it done against the big boys.

21 – Missouri (7-2)

Free-fallin'.

22 – North Carolina (6-3)

What might have been.

23 – Miami, Florida (6-3)

Excuse me: I guess Ohio State has beaten someone.

24 – Texas A&M (6-3)

Nice win over the fading Sooners.

25 – Florida (6-3)

Name recognition, too?

hope it's not another Cowboys nightmare, in which they do just enough to keep themselves out of the big picture.

Dude, they've got the reeling Texas, Kansas, and the shell shocked Sooners left.....and they've got the Sooners at home. Landry Jones has never started in Stillwater. He thinks Kyle Field was hostile? He's in for a treat. :) They've got to win these games. State is easily the best team of the four. Only their own mindset might prevent it--and this team doesn't seem to display the red headed stepchild, we're not good enough like the mighty Sooners mentality that's plagued teams in the past. The time is now. They'd better grab this opportunity for glory while it's there, because Holgerson is going to be on everyone's shopping list. The window of opportunity may be very small.

Sob. :(

No Rutgers watch, JM? Were they idle?
