The College Football Thread

I don't think anybody will particularly care, but I feel like throwing in some I-AA news.

Two years ago, ESPN made a big deal about the fact that the University of Delaware and Delaware State had never played a football game against each other and everybody went "Why does Delaware have two colleges" or "Where's Delaware?" and then proceeded to call me when they heard on the news that there was a shooting at DSU. At the time, UD was accused of racism because DSU is a primarily black school (it had nothing to do with our stadium being 10 times larger or that we're typically a better team in a different conference). That year, it was put to rest when the NCAA mandated that we play each other. And by that, I mean there was a playoff game where we were scheduled together where the Blue Hens beat the DSU Hornets something like 47-10.

Still, in spite of my possible sarcasm in the previous paragraph, an in-state rivalry will be fun and, tomorrow, it'll come true. Since one of UD's teams dropped out, they asked DSU to fill the spot and then offered them 3 more games (total of two here, two there) because they had to buy out their opponent. This is something long overdue, so I'm glad it'll come true.

^In state rivalries can be a lot of fun. The annual Michigan-Michigan State game is a pretty great experience, thats best enjoyed with fans of both teams in the room. Hopefully you'll get the same sort of thing with Delaware and Delaware State.

I mean, Delaware already practically wears Michigan's uniforms. All you need now is Delware State to have a lot of mental breakdowns at key points in the game, and you'll have Michigan State. ;)

Hahaha

The last game had the best atmosphere I've seen at a football game I've been to with the exception of the Penn State-Notre Dame game I went to. This isn't a playoff game, but I'm hoping for a similar experience.

Cal barely won. Yeah it was a 14 point final, but there were quite some issues, especially in that third quarter that were really troublesome. Just seemed like Cal had a total lack of discipline today, which is really surprising for a Cal team. At least they escape with a win, and I'm glad they won, but for the 8 ranked team in the country, that was an upsetting game to watch.

Hey, a win is a win. Especially when it comes against a Big 10 team on the road. As an aside, I like Minnesota's new stadium.
Technically wasn't it this year's Sugar Bowl? ;)
Technically, it was last season's Sugar Bowl. And that's what I should have posted instead of confusing people.

I also will be quite happy. I don't really like either of those teams. I've got loads of respect for them, but I don't like them. Come on Washington and Tennessee!

^I'm just tired of their success. It's always Tebow this or Tebow that. Always like the upsets and last I saw Tennessee was only down by a touchdown. As for USC, a loss for them helps Cal.

Hey Mallory .... what's with the butt-whippin' you're laying on Utah? And those Duck uniforms are so boooooring!

ETA: And that's a Duck win!

Plus it looks like familiarity breeds a victory... as Sarkisian nails the USC offense shut. Tough loss, Digits and not having Barkley no doubt affected them. But that was a great performance by the Huskies.

Well, one team I was hoping would go down went down today. That's good news. Also, Florida just didn't blow out Tennessee so maybe that's a good thing too.

I'm pretty confident in saying that I'm the most likely candidate (or one of at least) on this board for being a "Gator Hater". But I'm not. They have a fine, impressive program and they seem to do it right, without a hint of impropriety. I admire true greatness, and they have it. Plus, 13 wins in a row is a great streak in FBS ranks. And last year's performance, with Tebow's speech and all, was one of the truly great performances i recent memory

But the Vols are whom I was truly impressed by today. THey took everything Florida had and were still standing at the end. Darned impressive effort by them. Last year's Tennessee team would have limped off the field. This year's has at least a great looking defense. And for all his diva-like machinations, Bryce Brown is going to make believers out of a lot of people before it's over.

But I sure won't shed a tear the next time Florida does lose. :D

I feel that way for both Florida and USC. Both have outstanding programs and they both have a lot of class. Still, when I'm not a fan of either, I'm a fan of the upset and I am getting tired with all of Florida's success, both in Basketball and Football. They lose that's a big story and that's what makes College Football so fun, except if you're a fan of the losing team that is. Almost had that scare happen this morning with Cal.

As for Tennessee, I really wasn't following the game that closely, but given all the hype and the Vols going to the Swamp, they held their own and I give much props for that.

I'm always a fan of the upset (when it doesn't involve Ohio St on the short end), because it's part of what makes college football so great. Even if it has almost become NFL-lite.

And as an aside, Jhavid Best is my front-runner for the Heisman after today's performance.

Things had to go Oregon's way once in a while, and they still almost blew it at the end. But I'll take it. A very satisfying win.

The home uniforms today didn't impress me either, I thought last week's looked a whole lot better. It'll be interesting to see what they suit up in at home for Cal next week.

Sorry about the loss Digits. It's gotta hurt finding yourself in last place in the PAC-10 for the next week. :p

what the vols need is a real qb. still was impressive what they did considering the expectations.
tennessee came in talked like a pirate..
here there matey.. think you are scoring that passing td..
think again arghhhhhh

as a vols defender clean hits a gator so hard in the end zone the ball went flying.,. argh..

monte is doing interesting things with the defense and all those freshmen.

USC falls to Washington.

Bucky rolls up on Wofford.

Northern Illinois beats Purdon't.

Notre Dame beats Michigan State.

I'm a happy boy.
