The College Football Thread

Hey UNI is a powerhouse - in I-AA :p

I'll take this as an opportunity to say that the biggest test of Delaware's season is tomorrow as they go up against defending champion Richmond.

*My* reason for disliking ND is the free pass they seem to get for bowl games and the fact that they have (had?) a contract with NBC to show most of their games. Seems unfair that they get preferential treatment like that.

I'd also like to ask - WTF happened to my Jackets after the 1st quarter last night? Managed to pull it out in the end, but I could do without that kind of drama.

Not all FCS schools are created equal and UNI is certainly one of the better ones (12-3 last year), but Iowa has NO excuses for that kind of a performance if they truly believe themselves to be contenders for the Big Ten title.

Iowa definitely seems a little overrated this year. I really don't see them as a contender for the Big Ten title. Thats a two horse race between Penn State and Ohio State. The Hawkeyes have been an upper tier team for awhile, but haven't seriously been in contention for awhile now.

And at least Iowa beat UNI. I still try to not think about that Appy State thing. ;)

The ONLY reason I (suppose) I'll be rooting for Michigan is because the Big Ten needs to not suck. Every team needs to be undefeated until Penn State defeats them. Illinois has already failed me on that measure, but the rest have a chance.
And tomorrow Purdue will join Illinois after their loss to Oregon.

It's a little surprising to learn that Badger fans don't like PSU. I think Bielema is a @#$% because of that classy little stunt he pulled in 2006 with the offsides on the kickoff THREE TIMES but once he gets fired I'll have no issues with them.
Because of the changes in my personal life, I'm not going to get into a public discourse about my thoughts on Brett Bielema with anyone. I'd hate for my comments to come back to haunt me.

I'm pro-Notre Dame because our parish priest was(is) a massive Irish fan. My family remains fans of Notre Dame too. We were just taught as part of our Christian education to love the Irish and not root for their opponents and rivals (re: Penn State, who was their big psuedo-"Conference" rival at the time).

However, my alma mater loyalty is to Wisconsin, and as a Badger fan, I'm pretty lukewarm about the rest of the Big Eleven. Besides, I was a member of the first Big Eleven Band to ever visit Happy Valley, and the Nittany Lions fans were absolutely wonderful and cordial to us. I'll always have happy memories of Happy Valley.

I despise Notre Dame. But I'll be forced to root for them today for only the second time in history. (The first time was last year's game with Michigan).

It's probably irrelavent to today and the big games, but Go Cal. ;)

Have no idea who Eastern Washington is but hopefully Cal just kicks their ass.

I think someone isn't a fan of Rich Rod. ;)

There's a few big games today.

Notre Dame-Michigan will hopefully be a fun game to watch. The good team needs to win though. Notre Dame can't be allowed to triumph.

Ohio State-USC is a big game for the Big Ten. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, because I really have no idea. Ohio State plays well at home, and USC hasn't played a game in a Big Ten stadium for awhile. Normally I root against the Buckeyes, but this is a game they need to win.

And on the D2 front, Grand Valley State plays Saginaw Valley State today. The annual Battle of the Valleys game. It's the home opener this year too, so I'm looking forward to it. I'll miss a good chunk of the Ohio State-USC game for it but it'll be worth it. ;)

Eastern Washington is a Division I-AA school in the Big Sky Conference. Portland State has to play them pretty much every year.

Cal shouldn't have any trouble with them at all.

Finally. Just kick the field goal and bring on Mike and the Band. Quit screwing around, Bucky, some of us have laundry to get to.

At least they beat the 'Cuse. They could have been fighting down to the 2nd OT like Bucky did. Big Ten play is going to be rough.

In other news ND is looking OK, Wyoming is beating Texas, and OSU still to come.

A glorious day of college football today!

CommanderVaughn ...still worried at all about your Wolverienies? ;) They looked more then decent today. Good, good offense, especially on that winning drive.

Oy, my Cowboys just can't stand prosperity, can they? Come roaring all the way back and then Robinson fumbles and throws and interception on his last two drives and lets Houston win. :wtf: Being the savior sure is transitory, eh Gundy? They're still my boys, but I had a horrendous feeling this might happen.

OH MY!!!!!!!!!!

That was fucking sweet.

And about as stressful of a game as I've watched since the Texas Rose Bowl.

Fantastic finish after three sluggish (and that's being generous) quarters. Our defense is pretty good. Barkley and McKnight really came through on that last drive. Amazing!!

I almost feel sorry for Ohio State fans.

Almost....

:techman:

FIGHT ON!!!
