Curious to hear people's thoughts; did those episodes make ROTS more enjoyable by their addition?
I rewatched ROTS a week or two ago. It's odd.
Hayden Christensen and Matt Lanter's portrayal are so different, and the Clone Wars 3D model acts different too. In particular, Christensen does an outstanding job reminding you of Anakin's inner conflict, overshadowing the ending, which is difficult to reconcile with CW, where even in the first episode of the finale Anakin is simply bad-ass, and seemingly the man who Obi-Wan spoke of in A New Hope, no hint of what's about to happen. But despite the seeming disconnect – which I can explain away with the films delving deeper into his personal life – I couldn't say it's a bad thing, it fits with the way ROTS begins as if it is the epilogue after the victory in Clone Wars, and accepting what follows it is more difficult.
For me, the whole film became much heavier. I still have remember the chills I got in 2005 from the night scene outside of Jedi Temple, during the realization that the whole fictional world had been just torn apart in moments time, and would be no longer anything like it was. After Clone Wars, it actually felt as if that mattered. I felt emptiness, and I am sure I had a nightmare afterwards this time around. So, better.
Oh, yes, and the death of all the Jedi becomes personal. You feel for Aayla Secura when they kill her, and when it looks like Luminara Unduli is about to be.
Overall, I'd say ROTS becomes a better film. No nuggets like “Why is Aurra Sing waiting to assassinate Anakin during the pod race? Wait, how is she born already, and how does she know who he is, did she time travel after R2 saved him?” moment in TPM.
