The Clone Wars and Rebels - A First Timer's Thread

Well Filloni did create Bo-Katan specifically for Katee Sackhoff so...

I'm still waiting patiently for Bo-Katan to appear in this series. I'm starting to get the feeling that she won't appear until Rebels for some reason, even though I have like 40 episodes left.

I didn’t even notice. I do remember the episode though. :(
To be fair, from what I gather she wasn't originally supposed to be in this episode's script so she's easy to overlook if you're not paying attention to the credits. Of course when it first aired, they made sure people paid attention. ;)

I think the way it went down was that Dave created the character for a later arc, and when he was done with that script, decided to insert her into this episode (which was already further along in the production pipeline) in place of some nameless goon. That way it doesn't seem like she appears out of nowhere in the later episode...and I suspect it's an excuse to get Katie on board early.

I've made it to the "How do Lightsabers get made" portion of the series. Another question I've always wondered about in the Star Wars universe.

The Wookie lightsaber looked amazing. It's very rustic

The Youngling arc was great. I finally got some answers to the whole Lightsaber thing and I feel bad that those younglings are probably all going to die via Order 66. It was another great arc for Ahsoka.

I'm now watching the next arc about the droids mission and this is what I can look forward to for the next four episodes? Where is C3PO anyway. He's not been around for a long while.

^Yeah, I tend to skip the droids arc when I do a rewatch. Seeing it week-to-week was T...E...D...I...O...U...S...

On the positive side, David Tennant as the thousand year old master lightsaber building droid was a delight. Here's hoping he shows up in live action somewhere down the line!

I'm very easy to please when it comes to movies and TV, and even I didn't like that arc. Something has to be really bad for me not to like it.

Gregor is alright. The rest of the droid arc was about as dull as the planet they were on. The conclusion is explosive, but its the Clone Wars.

The droid arc really did not need to be four episodes long.

Agreed. I didn't mind the Gregor episode, but otherwise I was pretty bored for the entire duration. But the droid focused episodes are generally among the weakest of the entire series, IMO. Second only to the Jar Jar episodes.

Dave Filoni liked the Republic Commando game, he's the reason Delta Squad appeared in an earlier episode, and I imagine it was his idea to make Gregor one as well. Gregor's rifle is your main weapon from that game. Both the Commando class and that weapon appear in DICE's Battlefront 2.

The scene where he looks up into the sky at the Republic ship, the helmet HUD is taken right from that game.

Also some pirates and Transdoshans in various episodes use a weapon inspired by the Slugthrower/Shotgun from that game. It's also in DICE Battlefront 1 and 2.

The second episode of this arc actually started off well enough with the Comet scene and the "Good News, Bad News". It's devolved from there though and I think the Colonel is the second most annoying character in Star Wars, with the WAC droid being the third. The first will always be Jar Jar, of course.

I'm watching the final episode of this arc and I actually don't hate it as much as I thought I would. It's not good, and I really miss Anakin, Ahsoka, Obi Wan, and Maul and Savage, but I thought the third episode in this arc, Missing in Action, was quite good. I actually liked the Gregor character and he was just another clone who was given a unique personality, like Rex, Cody, and the Deserter Clone from (I believe) season 2. I don't think this arc needed to be 4 episodes though and it could have easily ended after the third one, especially when there are two less episodes this season than the prior 4.

It might be that the droid arc was to get the audience more ready for the other characters for the last two arcs (both are powerful from what I recall)... They were the final TV episodes released prior to the effects of Lucasfilm being bought by Disney took The Clone Wars off Cartoon Network. The next (Sixth) Season for the "Lost Episodes" and of course Season Seven is recent.

Just to be clear, IMO these episodes aren't "bad", they're just boring. Really...really...boring. The production standards are as high as ever and indeed, the final episode features easily the most spectacular explosion effect they've ever done!

I suspect this whole thing started out as a wild "what if we did a whole episode with just R2 units?! We'll make it avant-garde, like a silent movie with droids!" pitch that got out of control. At a certain point they'd have realised that as the story expanded, they needed *some* source of "human" dialogue, not just an endless string of emotive beeps, so they invented the Colonel...then they realised they can't have him just talking to himself the whole time, so they stuck in WAC (though not necessarily in that order.) By the time they realised it wasn't working, they episode were too far along in production to do anything about it, so they just soldiered ahead.

all that said, Filloni's shows do have a pattern of putting a silly "pallet cleanser" type stories ahead of the more heavy stuff. As much for the crew's benefit as the audiences; indeed it became almost a tradition on 'Rebels'!

The droids tend to be some of my favorite characters, so I usually really enjoy the droid focused episode, but even love of droids wasn't enough to save this arc for me.
On a side note, I really wish they would add the old Droids cartoon, and the Ewoks one, to Disney+, I would love to check them out. I know there are ways to watch them online, but I'd prefer a legal, official way to watch them. Maybe they'll add Droids once we get closer to the release of A Droid story they'll release them.

I really really hope we might see a Solo sequel on Disney Plus. Darth Maul is ruthless, seizing control of Mandalore like that. I do recognize Katee Sackhoff and Bo-Katan now. Despite the droid detour, Season 5 has been amazing.

Who knew a kids show can get that violent. Just watched the episode where we see Darth Sidious (Not Senator) actually physically take action for the first time this series killing Savage and torturing Maul and holy crap. The death of Satine was brutal. Good lord I think I understand why they placed the droid storyline where they did. I wonder if families were watching these next three episodes going, uh, this is a little violent for a kids show.

Man those first two seasons feel so long ago.
