the BIGGEST blooper

Which I guess is their time's equivalent to what, a cross between mixing bleach and ammonia with releasing pure oxygen onto a raging fire?

If the programming was 'smart' it could adapt to a different set of parameters, and I think McIntyre suggests this in the novelizations. Maybe to account for the star?

One of the biggest bloopers of this kind that makes me groan is the "trilithium" thing in Generations. The worst part is that it only contradicts ONE episode of TNG, but it's a huge contradiction, and one that still annoys me.

Starship Mine dealt with Trilithium Resin. I always just figured Generations was dealing with pure trilithium, something completely different. Maybe. At least in my mind. :)

I'm going with that bizzare, illogical, and impossible turboshaft in TFF.
I kinda liked that shaft. I agree that there is no room for 78 decks, but I liked how the shape would give enough room for different turbolifts to pass by each other in the same shaft.

I'm also surprised that nobody mentioned Kirk's travelling blood stain in TWOK.

I have the biggest blooper.

In The Motion Picture, when kirk is floating out of the airlock door you can see the scaffolding that is holding up the saucer set, hell there is more scaffolding than hull in that shot! I know its a painful shot.... :)

Maybe someone can provide a picture

But that was only because it was added much later, for the ABC TV broadcast of TMP, and then released on home video as the "Special Longer Version". Kirk leaves the ship in one style of helmet and returns in a different one!

The scene's not on the original VHS or Beta release, the widescreen VHS release, the "Director's Edition" DVD, or the new theatrical-version DVD or Blu-Ray.

All true but fun to watch, IMO, for the technical side of it. Kind of like pulling up the curtain to oz..do you really want to see it?

I was going to say the same thing! I'm fairly confident that the scene is in the two VHS versions (1983 and Box Set) I have. It's pretty much just the door and the door area and the rest are the poles and scaffolding. It's on screen a good 3-4 seconds, too!

And, the "Marshmelons".

Well, we all knew what it was. I think its cool because it kind of shows us the 'making of the movie' while also telling the story. I think it was cool and wish they would put it in the BLUERAY..

By the way, I already have 2-3-4 in BLURAY but will get all six TOS movies this weekend. Has anyone seen TMP yet in Bluray? Hows it look?

Rob

The biggest blooper, hands down, is the entire final act of Generations. Picard had the entirety of time and space at his disposal to defeat Soran, and he chooses to return ten seconds before Soran destroys the Veridian star. What a dumbass.

I always liked the "Pretty big margin for error -- much TOO big" thing from GEN...

Maybe it's too early in the morning for me but...what was wrong with that scene?

Because they should've said they had a SMALL margin for error (to shoot down Soran's probe). Having a BIG margin for error is actually a good thing. In fairness I never caught it on multiple viewings (yes, I did watch GEN more than once!) and first learned about it from the Moore / Braga commentary track on the DVD. They admitted that nobody -- the writers, director, producers (including Berman) -- realized the error during production or even in time to loop the line in post.

That scene IS in the blu-ray as a deleted scene.
i hope you didn't mean incorperate a giant continuity error into the original version of the movie! On purpose?

Also amazingly, 4 TOS movies have 'crew' members slipping in in front of the camera.

IN TMP as kirk leaves the shuttle at the extreme left of frame you can see a AD standing with his arm in front of an extra waiting for the cue to let her walk into frame.

IN TSFS as the klingon is blown from the rear of the bridge to the front from the explosion, you can see somebodies arm try to stop him from flying to far and hitting the camera.

In TVH when Sulu accidently turns on the wipers on the helicopter, you can see the hand of an extra manually moving the wiper.

In TFF as Sybok is throwing Kirk around the shuttle bay, you can see at extreme right upper frame an extra steadying the 'wired-up' Shatner's feet just as the shot starts. This is hard to catch depending on your TV 'overscan'

Was Meyer the only director who could manage keeping crew out of frame?

There is no Chekov conflict, his first onscreen episode has a stardate that is a lesser value than Space Seed. For all we know he was working in a different department or the night shift.

That is only a blooper in the minds of people who think that events not explicitly explained can not possibly be 'real'

There is not one shred of evidence/canon that states when Chekov came aboard or who he might have encountered during the time before he became a bridge officer. Not one.

The fact that Koenig was hired for the second season is the only thing these pea-brained people can wrap their minds around.

An early draft of TWOK had a parenthetical explanation for this:

During the time of "Space Seed", Chekov took a big, stinking dump in the rec room restroom. Khan entered the restroom as Chekov stepped out.

Khan held his breath and took a piss, but when he was leaving, two other crewmen were entering the restroom. Both loudly blamed Khan for the lingering, bitter stink.

Khan never forgot a face.
