once the series found its footing (season three and beyond) it is the best. the way story arcs are continued, development of characters, and just the overall quality make tng the best star trek series ever

If my memory was wiped and all of the TNG episodes were brand new to me, TNG would be my favorite. But, right now it is DS9.

Nope, "close" as in it's the only version of Trek that anyone clever would try to rebuild from - and that's what they've done.

Quite true, but any TV series with the Star Trek label is a Star Trek series, regardless of its rebuilding potential or any quality at all.

TNG is my second favorite of the series. "Enterprise" would be the third.
