The best Star Trek series!

For me it's TNG. I've watched all of DS9, VOY, ENT, though I can't finish a TOS ep without getting bored or annoyed. The overall story arc might not be as good as DS9 but it had just as memorable episodes. The cast was great and had tremendous chemistry. That's probably why I like these characters the best. Ok, Dr. Crusher was uninteresting but it wouldn't be the same without her?

Who else agrees?

TNG is my favourite series, as it was the one I grew up with. However, I enjoy watching any series.

I vacillate between TOS and TNG for my favourite. I feel a bit guilty saying it's TNG - how can TOS not top everyone's list? - but I suspect if I was lost on a desert island and had to pick one series only to take with me, it would be TNG.

I respect TOS for starting the franchise and giving life to the other series. But I cannot stand it. It's one of my least favorite sci fi shows.

I'd have to go with TNG too, but mainly because that would give me seven season and not just three. ;)

I watched TNG before I watched anything else, mostly because it at the time was the only Trek-show on television in Sweden. However, after that I went on to TOS, but found it incredibly tedious. I couldn't wait for most episodes to be over, many times I did other things on my computer at the same time, to amuse myself somewhat. The episodes are to long(I thank more commercials for shortening shows since then), and they are to "slow". Plus, the effects are often more humourous than anything else.

TNG was the very first sci-fi series I watched regularly, so I therefore have a very positive opinion about the show, though it is second to DS9 for me.

I have never wanted to watch TOS, simply because I respect the series for starting the franchise, but I'd be judging the series from a 90's/00's perspective, which I think will ultimately leave me disappointed with it.

I do like the TOS movies though, well, four of the six at least!

TOS is the best. Hell, it's still close to the only.

Which, of course, is why when it came time to rescue the Franchise from its mistakes the studio went back to that well.

TNG is also my favorite, with TOS taking second place. The story telling in both shows is radically different, but I like both.

Voyager is enjoyable to me as TNGlite (not nearly as good, taking 3rd place). DS9's pretentiousness I could not stand. Except for select episodes, I usually can't stand to sit thru it.

Out of all the Star Treks, I would say this is my favourite. This was the one that got me hooked on Trek after all. I would also say that it is the one which is most forgiving to the casual watcher, as there aren't too many complicated story arcs, and most episodes work well as a 'stand alone' episode, something that you can just watch idly if there's nothing better to watch on the TV.

I just find that DS9's characters were more fully realised. TNG had some great episodes, but DS9 fleshed out the Star Trek universe in a way we'll probably never see again.

i loved tos when i was little, and tng when it was the only sf show aired back in the eighties in our country. even utter nonsense like 'encounter at farpoint' was acceptable. not anymore. converted to ds9 with the first trailer weeks before the show started, and never looked back to the two antiques mentioned above. voyager inherited the prime time from ds9 when it started (how dare they?), and i disliked it apart from some episodes. watched it only sporadically, missed the lot. enterprise, well, i lost the patience after ten or so exqusitely boring episodes back to back, didn't believe anymore a good one would come my way. caught up only last year, and discovered that the 4th season wasn't bad at all. and also last year, after finally revisiting voyager, i fell in love with it. now my favourite by a great margin.

Well I'm guessing that you'll get the majority of people agreeing with you in the TNG subforum. You would get a more realistic survey of the entire Trek BBS if you post a thread in General Trek Discussion.

Anyway, my favorite Trek series is definitely DS9. TNG is tied with TOS for the second place, and I'm starting to warm up to ENT.

Generally TOS TNG and DS9 are the Star Treks I like, and for markedly different reasons. I've never really given half a mind to ranking them, though.

Hell, it's still close to the only.

If by close you mean one of five (six if we must count the cartoon), then not really.

I llove TNG. It was such a relief to have new Trek back on TV when it first aired...and I always retained that feeling about it.

I am torn about whether it is actually the best, though, since I also have a strong affection for TOS.

I came of age during the white-hot fandom of the seventies, so I really can't make a fair comparison. TOS is Trek, and everything else (even the TOS movies) is a spinoff that may or may not fulfill and develop the TOS defined imperatives. If I were completely objective, I could give the edge to DS9 as the best TV series overall.

If by close you mean one of five

Nope, "close" as in it's the only version of Trek that anyone clever would try to rebuild from - and that's what they've done.

Everything else in Star Trek is dependent upon TOS, and the studio is clearly willing to discard all other versions for future film/TV production by altering the Franchise from the root onward.

And really, there's no reason to do otherwise.

Quite true, but any TV series with the Star Trek label is a Star Trek series, regardless of its rebuilding potential or any quality at all.

TNG got it started for me. I then went back and tried to catch as many TOS eps as I could. I still haven't seen them all regretably. But having seen all the other series, I have to go TNG with DS9 a close second.
