The Battlestar Galactica (TOS & NuBSG) Appreciation and Remembrance Thread

I wasn't looking for input on the Order I made. I just wanted to know what other people thought of it.

I've seen the series. There's no upshot to me rewatching any of it, except to rewatch those episodes or just parts of episodes or individual scenes that I might want to randomly revisit. There's literally nothing I could get worth any investment of time by attempting to watch either all scenes or any subset of scenes or episodes in in-universe chronological order.

If I ever did sit down to do a full rewatch, say with someone who'd never seen it before, it would be in release order, because that would be the most straightforward, least complicated way to do it. Complications in how to consume entertainment like this are needless complications. They're not going to want anything else anyway. I'd bet money on that.

I've never done it, but I always wanted to try the incredibly cursed approach of watching The Plan in the middle of "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II." There's a commercial break in the episode right where it would go, it's very doable.

Personally, I feel that Razor and The Plan break up the natural flow of the main story. Back when this show was being broadcast on TV Razor made sense as a way to keep audience engagement without tying up too much of the main cast, but it suffers from "prequelism" in that it feels the need to explain absolutely everything that Pegasus went through, and in the process makes many things feel small or too fast.

The Plan I find more interesting (I know, I'm weird) but it doesn't fit in the flow of the story.

So when I did my latest rewatch about a month ago, I skipped both of those. I just watched the actual main story in roughly four episode chunks, making an effort to watch the extended editions when appropriate, and I found the story holds together really well when done that way. The last season in particular I think benefits from binging - so many of the things I disliked the first time around turned out to be much better managed when I still had details relatively fresh in my mind. I thought I might tack The Plan on at the end - where it belongs, because it's a radical viewpoint shift and not part of the main story - but in the end I decided to put more time into watching all of Sidney Potier's movies instead.

I didn't see "Razor" or "The Plan" until after I'd watched the full series (but before Caprica). I agree that they don't necessarily fit tidily or effectively into the "main" viewing order. As such, I was happy to watch them as "supplemental material". If nothing else, I really enjoyed getting more Dean Stockwell and Michelle Forbes, and it was interesting to me to see the fall of the colonies versus just hearing about it in the abstract, especially with the inclusion of the cylons' POV.

"Blood & Chrome" was a bit of a tougher one for me. It was interesting to see a depiction of how Galactica might have looked in its prime, but I had trouble reconciling how Galactica as it looked at that point in time could have become the ship I'd watched throughout the series.

A cromulent point. If one wishes to watch everything in chronological order, one must start with Caprica, and then Blood and Chrome, and only then BSG.

Only learned recently, that in Caprica, the operettic song where the male vocals are provided by Alessandro Juliani, the actor who played Felix Gaeta in BSG.
