The Ahsoka series is coming.

I will. People don't seem to understand what I am saying about how diversity doesn't have to be defined by source material.
I'm sorry to go back to this, but I think I see where your confusion comes from. You're talking about source material like this would be an adaptation of the character, like when the Flash changed the Wests from white to black, but the comics are supposed to be equal to the shows, so this would be the same version of the character. So basically, what you're suggesting would be like if Picard brought back Geordie La Forge, but recast him with a white actor.

I know they say the comics are canon but I don't know if I fully trust that when it comes to books and comics. I feel if they wanted to do something for a movie or show that contradicted those things they would do it in a heartbeat. The fact they went with a white female is them in essence doing that and I don't think they would do that if this character had been in one of the movies or even if she had been in Clone Wars or Rebels.

Oh sure, I’d bet there are examples of situations where the books/comics are overwritten by the shows/movies. No doubt. But Doctor Aphra is a pretty popular character. So much so she was initially a side character in the first volume of the Darth Vader comic and got her own title after that. When (I think), they originally planned to kill her off. They would piss off a decent amount of fans if they didn’t get her right.

So what's this character about. Is she a doctor and pilot? That sounds kind of interesting. Does she have any connection to Ahsoka in the comics?

No connection to Ahsoka. Like said above, she’s an archaeologist. A rather… um… unorthodox one at that.

Makes me more excited for the show. I mean I was already all in so they got to do a lot to make me not excited.

The comics/books/video games are all canon, in the sense that the general events happened, but the on-screen material takes precedence. For example, the way Cobb Vanth got Boba Fett's armor in The Mandalorian doesn't quite jibe with how it happened in the Aftermath novel trilogy (in which Vanth and the concept of him acquiring the armor were both introduced) but that doesn't negate the rest of what happens in those books.

So they are canon in the way the Stargate movie is canon to the tv show. Their is differences in some concepts from the film to the series but the adventure the characters had in the movie is assumed to have happened basically the same way for the tv versions of those characters. Everything from killing Ra to Daniel staying behind and getting married.

Oh for the love of Dagon . . . will you please stop?
You're not going to backwards logic your way into making a "it's totally OK to whitewash a POC character" argument seem not racist, because racist is exactly what it is.

Yes, POC characters have been whitewashed before, and that is a BAD thing, not a precedent to follow.
Yes, some of the minor details of continuity are open to a little flexibility between media, usually by way of the "unreliable narrator" clause.
No, a person's ethnicity does not qualify as a "minor detail", especially when said ethnicity is already underrepresented.

Aphra is explicitly and unequivocally of an East Asian ethnically. No ifs, ands, or buts. End of discussion.

Once again I didn't say diversity and representation aren't important. I am saying their is more than one way to do that than to copy source material but I see you want to ignore that. If you think the only way to introduce interesting well rounded characters who aren't white males is to copy from older source material it is because you lack the imagination or creativity to create those characters from scratch or even take other characters from source material.

They haven't even finished casting the show I think so we don't know what other characters are going to be created. If this show has a Asian character on it that is interesting and compelling nobody will care if the character was inspired from a comic book or the writers imagination . In the future nobody is going to care about these rules because every character will be race or gender flipped multiple times so this character will someday be played by an Asian actor and also a Latino actor. Sometimes the character will be female and sometimes male. But I don't think you actually have that vision. You just have a bunch of Twitter style talking points about what your "suppose to do."

Your one that keeps bringing it up. I am ready to move on. So lets make this the final post about it. Agree?

"Keeps bringing it up"? Mate, the last time I posted on this thread was last Wednesday, and two pages ago. Those two pages are filled with you persisting over and over in the face of literally every one else telling you to knock it off.

So squire; you can take your strawmen, and kindly jog on.

Your bringing it up with the post you just made. But if you want the last word you can have it I suppose. Say something after this and I will let you have it if you want.

Well, any potential interest I have in Aphra showing up in Ahsoka is pretty much dead and buried. Fan fights over this stuff is pretty much ruining desire to try and enjoy potentially interesting characters. At this point in time seeing Thrawn is more appealing than Aphra or any other character besides Ahsoka.

I wouldn't let fights like this ruin the character for you. How interesting the character will be is going to come down to the writers and actor.
