The Ahsoka series is coming.

Years ago there was reliable intel that they were doing an animated follow up to Rebels but then it went quiet.

I wonder what they actually heard was this, or maybe the animated idea turned into live action.

This is absolutely a live action follow up to Rebels

Looks fun but shouldn’t Luke be doing all this? He’s “boss man” after all. Not some minion of his dad’s.
Yeah, they'd better have a really good explanation for why he isn't there - "bad luck, he's currently busy quietly busting a spice smuggling ring, and there was no way for Ahsoka to get in touch with him, so she had to do it all herself, LOL!" isn't going to cut it. (It will probably be exactly that, though, won't it.)

And I guess the fact that they're teasing a second season, and Filoni is doing a movie in this timeline, means it's pretty much certain that if Ahsoka and Luke ever do team up and do a mission(s) together, and not just chat about Grogu for a few minutes, it won't be in this season.

Overall: meh.

The first half of the season is going to be pre her appearance in the Mandalorian and might include meeting Luke before the Mandalorian or Book of Boba Fett appearance. The second half is the hunt for Ezra. From what I understand, all of her appearances in live action have been before the Rebels epilogue.

This show is going to be a huge test of how much Filoni thinks the average Star Wars viewer bothered to watch his cartoons. Just from personal experience, my Dad and Brother watch and enjoy the Star wars films, Mandalorian, and Book of Boba Fett, but they have never and will never watch TCW or Rebels, so I'm really curious if Ashoka can manage to be understandable to viewers like them, which will probably be the average viewer experience. If Ashoka can manage to be completely viewable for people who have just seen The Mandalorian, I think it will do well, but I don't know if Filoni realizes that most people watching the live action stuff don't care about the cartoons, whether thats a fair opinion or not.

As for myself, I liked the trailer well enough. I am intrigued by the evil Jedi (are they left over Inquisitors, or something else?), and by seeing Thrawn in live action, but I don't care about any Rebels characters, so the show basically being about finding Ezra isn't particularly compelling. Hopefully they focus more on Thrawn and his return then they do on Ezra or the Rebels cast, that's the only route where I can see the show succeeding in general, especially with the average non-cartoon watching fans.

Do we know for a fact Luke won’t be a part of this? Just because we don’t see him in a trailer?
No we don't, but while this corner of the BBS may be full of Rebels fans, the general public doesn't know who Ahsoka and the Ghost crew are. So Lucasfilm is taking a bit of a gamble on being able to get said general public excited about a Jedi in the post-RotJ period without publicly mentioning that other Jedi person, the one that people already know and like.

Gambles can pay off. Maybe we wait and see as opposed to borrowing trouble? I get it. It’s hard for some to have confidence that things will unfold as they should. I have those blind spots too. But I’m not worried here.

I haven't seen Rebels, but am aware enough of the lore surrounding it and surrounding Ahsoka to be fairly confident that this live-action show is filling in the gaps before - and following up on - its Epilogue, especially after Dave Filoni publicly floated the possibility of Ahsoka's part in The Mandalorian taking place prior to said Epilogue.

With regards to the trailer not showing Ahsoka looking like Gandalf the White or giving any indication of Zeb, Jacen Syndulla, or Luke, I would point out that "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence".

Plenty of tubers will make a "Rebels cliff notes" videos for those who haven't watched rebels or tcw. Who is Ashoka .. Who is Hera etc.

Plus, there seems to be enough people that have watched it that the Disney bean counters gave to okay for live action.

Star Wars has always intentionally been made accessible for everyone, regardless of how familiar one may or may not be with any particular part of it, so although it's fairly easy to tell for those who have seen or are otherwise aware of Rebels and its ending that this show is continuing on from said ending, it's almost a given that the show itself will provide enough information and context clues that anyone unfamiliar with Rebels will still have no trouble following along.

I’m sure the issue of giving enough information for the general fan to get enough of an idea who these characters are and be able to has been addressed. And those who did watch Rebels will get an additional layer of context.

Not sure what this Baylan and his little side-kick is about. Their blades seems to hint at dark side, but they're more of an orange rather than red (especially compared to the Inquisitor seen later on), so the kyber hasn't been bled. Not Sith obviously. Maybe they're just antique weapons? They may not even be darksiders, despite the implied villainy. Thrawn may have found some ancient breakaway Jedi sect out in the unknown regions. Or they're Sith cultist? Either way there's something different about them.
I like the idea of Thrawn finding a ancient breakaway sect (Jedi, Sith, or otherwise) and brings them to this area of the galaxy for whatever consequences.

Kinda looks like the Baylan/Ahsoka showdown is in a chamber similar to the World Between Worlds-ish room in the Lothal temple where Ezra communicated with Yoda. From all the equipment lying around, looks like Baylan is analyszing the starchart. Presumably they're looking for something specific?
Yes! I thought the same thing. The logo for the show further hints that a revisit to the Worlds Between Worlds plays a major part of the show. I'm very much looking forward to that aspect of the show because that storyline was one of my favorites from Rebels.

Ahsoka fighting an Inquisitor in a shipyard? Can't tell if that ISD is being build or dismantled. If the latter and this is "present day", then that may be the LAST surviving Inquisitor (quite the turnaround for them to have the Jedi hunting them as fugitives!) If it's the former then the flashbacks in this show may go all the way back to what she did after Malachor, if not further.
I always love the idea of the hunters becoming the hunted, especially when it turns against the villains. Even though I just rewatched the show, I can't remember if there were any remaining living Inquisitors that we got to know or if any of them simply faded away to make room for Thrawn. I can't even remember if the one that only appeared on Malachor actually died or if it was left open-ended. Gods, I hate my shitty memory.

A Huyang on Lothal? A Huyang on Lothal!
And hopefully voiced by David Tennant!

One thing you forgot to mention and one that didn't sink into my brain properly until the fifth or so viewing: LOTHCAT!!!!

Guess he could do it in that movie of his.
I didn't think of that. Maybe, maybe not considering the focus of that film is supposedly the conclusion of the post-Return of the Jedi-era shows and Luke is only tangentially connected to them and I wouldn't expect a flashback just to show that.

I'm more inclined he'll do the Luke/Ahsoka first meeting as its own project. Might even only be prose.

Incidentally; I had another look at the trailer and that is 100% Corellia. You can see the "pills" in the background of the shot of Chopper. That means the Inquisitor fight, and the Phantom II chase are all part of the same sequence and whatever is being stolen is probably some old Imperial tech.

Jedi and the force has always been a blindspot for Thrawn. It's something he doesn't quite understand and so struggles to plan for. So it would make sense that rather than ignore a proven strategic weakness, he'd seek out some way to counter it. Of course we don't even know that these guys have anything to do with him, but a major plot point for 'Heir to the Empire' did involve him recruiting an extremist force user type, so there's good precedent.

The Inquisitors basically disappear from the show after season 2. All of the ones introduced were killed off and no new ones showed up. The implication from what Filloni has said is that he needed them all off the board by the time ANH happens, so it's reasonable to assume that they're basically all dead . . . except for maybe this last one and a few other stragglers.

That was 100% his voice.

I guess it didn't register as notable since Tookas have already shown up in live action a few times.
What I did note though is that this appears to be Sabine's pet lothcat, and true to form, she's drawn little doodles of it all over her walls (along with a familiar looking wolf head.)
