Spoilers The Acolyte

General Pryde from TROS is my favorite First Order officer. He felt just like an Imperial Era General, Admiral or Moff and one of my favorite scenes in that movie is when he pledges his loyalty to Palpatine, just as he did "in the war." Clearly Pryde was an old school Imperial who survived long enough to put on a similar but new uniform and rise to power in the First Order military chain of command.

A shame Pryde wasn't introduced sooner than TROS. He'd have been an excellent foil for Hux and the Resistance in TFA and TLJ.

Specifically "in the old wars" plural, whatever that means. Seems like he would have been too young for the Clone War.

Could be reference the mop-up campaigns and local suppressions of resistance movements, like we see in Solo on Mimban. Local wars that Imperial historians later rolled into and with the Clone Wars as being a wider period of stabilizing galactic order.

You can never go wrong with Richard E. Grant.

What did he do in the MCU? I looked through his filmography on Wikipedia and I didn't see any MCU productions.

Oh right, now I remember him. I didn't see it at first on Wikipedia because it's between two longer titles, but now that I know where to look, I found it.

Are there Generals Envy and Sloth, too? Or maybe Envee and Slauth? ;)

 Yeah, some of those names are painfully contrived and condescending to the audience's intelligence. But that's really been going on for decades in the Star Wars Universe. Darth (In)Sidious, Darth Maul, Darth Tyranus, General Grievous, Inquisitor Draco, Cad Baine, and so on. Names in the EU are far more interesting and alien-sounding like these cute little Harry Potter reject kiddie names.

I give you: Whorm Loathsom

Then there was the more obscure "Newt Gunray" - the head of the Trade Federation - whose name was an amalgamation of Newt (Gingrich) and "Reagan" reversed. An epically cringe (and somewhat dated at the time) political commentary.

"You can write this shit, George, but you can't say it!" - Harrison Ford.
