Ten Forward Lounge - Miscellaneous General Chat & Welcome Thread

Welcome back retroenzo! Long time no see! Are you ok? Where have you been all the time? *checks profile* ah, VOY - no wonder I didn't see you. Too few Klingons in VOY for my taste - I've always had a weakness for long-haired men, particularly when they offer tea and poetry :D

Hi yes I'm still about. I admit I don't really contribute much apart from throwing in an odd line into the 'line by lines' but I do still pop in to read the posts.

Got to thinking about the 1995 movie Outbreak. I realized it has not only Dustin Hoffman, Cuba Gooding Jr. & Morgan Freeman, but also Kevin Spacey. I wonder what Rene Russo has to say about working with all of them
Well, she already learned some Jiu-Jitsu to fend off Mel Gibson during Lethal Weapon 3, or because of the movie, so I imagine if anyone tried something it would go like this:

and since there are 4 of them they'd propably keep getting into each other's way.
And in the worst case there's always this Hollywood-tested instruction movie ;)

welcome :) I see you already started exploring the board. Have fun! And if there's a problem, please don't hesitate to ask a Moderator or one of the oldtimers. We're mostly harmless, though a bit crazy (haven't managed to find out yet if one becomes crazy by posting here or posts here because one is crazy. At any rate there's a causal nexus) (nexus in the non-Trek sense ;) ).

Not sure if there is a place for this, but I just wanted to take the chance to say hello and get a handle on who and where everyone is from. I'll start it all of. I'm from Ontario Canada. I'm 31 and have been a fan of trek as long as I can remember. My favorite is Tng and ds9.

Hi @Metch , and welcome to TrekBBS! Coincidentally, I am also from Ontario, Canada, and I have been a Trek fan as far back as I can remember too, which is about mid-last week*.

auntiehill is correct about the Ten-Forward thread. Once I am done writing this, I am actually going to merge this thread in with that one, since we encourage these types of posts to all go there. I hope you don't mind. Please note, there is also the Welcome Fellow Trekkies thread in GenTrek, in case you wanted to introduce yourself there, too.

If you haven't already, you may also want to check out our Rules Guide.

So again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy it here!

* I kid, of course. Some things I can remember all the way back to June or so!

That far?! You have a memory like an elephant! I need salt and went shopping every day all week. Bought all sorts of stuff and every time forgot about the salt. Mostly, because it is on my shopping list which I keep forgetting to take with me. But at least I bought a nice hand-wittled tiny spoon for the salt yesterday. So, slowly but surely I'm getting there. :D

I don't why but somehow listening to Baby Boomers talking about their youth (high school or college age) in the '60s and '70s always sounds cooler me talking about mine in the '90s and '00s.

Random thought that popped into my head when I was with a friend in Boston today, telling me everything they did in the '70s and all the bands they got to see. Don't know where else to post it.

It's the same with children nowadays, Garth. We used to play far more games than they do. It seems to me that kids today only get played at by some technical device. They are playing passively, just reacting, as opposed to us oldtimers who acted and played actively. I have the impression that this 'being played at' nips their creativity in the bud whereas we often had to invent and build our own toys and games (you'd be surprised at what you can build from clothes-pegs =) - and what little understanding parents have for elaborately constructed rockets, castles, cranes etc. on laundry day... ;) ).
Back then (I'm a baby-boomer, too), all this portable digital stuff wasn't invented. No cell phones, no digital watches, no pocket calculators, no colour TV (only 3 channels and no ad breaks! YAY! :D), no PCs, tablets, e-books, walkmen, i-pods etc. What distinguished us from modern children and teenagers is that we had time galore. And we used that for social interaction. It seems to me that the generations currently growing up are an accumulation of isolated individuals rather than a socially connected community.
Those who post here excluded, of course :)
