Spoilers Ted Lasso Season 3 Discussion

The first one was Rupert’s new wife, and the second one was his assistant he was cuddling up to earlier this season, and who he mentioned that he fired last week.

Ah gotcha! I guess I hadn't paid enough attention to them. Thanks!

I'm glad there was some focus on Ted in this episode and he actively participated in the overall storyline aiding Jamie during his injury and giving his sage advice. Seems like with one episode left everything is going to be wrapped up with a nice bow on it. Nate is forgiven by all and practically asked by everyone to return to the team. The man can do no wrong and falls into good fortune everywhere. And how's that prediction with Rebecca going to turn out? I expected her to be pregnant by now.

The last two episodes feel like a righting of the ship. Maybe too little too late, but if this was "too little" then sign me up.

I never in a million years would have thought I'd be enjoying the Roy, Keely, and Jamie story anywhere NEAR this much.

Beard's story was worth waiting for.

I don't feel like we've missed anything. The Nate story has been fine the way it is. Maybe more Ted was needed? But Ted's story would have just been about Ted, and that's not really the dynamic of the show. Ted showing Beard the security cam of Nate? That's the dynamic of the show. Which maybe they should have involved Ted into the other stories more.

Keely should have gotten a better story. Hell, Keely SHOULD have been her own Ted.

Does anyone else think that Danny and Van Damme's story is just one of the weirdest yet oddly great things this season?

Yeah, the last episode Ted was in it for about 7 minutes. Both my wife and I think they're setting the show up to continue without Sudekis.
That shouldn't happen. There are a lot of great stories and characters. But if Ted's story with the team ends here then the show should end with it.

Definitely feels like we're still short an episode or two before the finale, lot going on. They'll win the championship, Nate comes back, apologizes, and then takes over the team when Ted goes back to his son (and maybe gets another crack at his ex, although I like Sassy better). Gotta wrap up Roy/Keeley, Rebecca needs an ending (plus whatever's going on with Rupert when Becs and the assistant showed up), and that's just the major stuff to hit. Being the show it is, sure lots of the minor characters will all get a few small moments in there too...

Grey's Anatomy is pushing on (barely) without Grey. Who's to say Ted Lasso can't push on without Ted Lasso?

Very true. I just hope they change the title. Grey's Anatomy without Grey is just ER or Chicago Hope by another name. Changing the name to "Richmond AFC" seems to make the most sense to me.

I know the show is about Ted, but honestly, the show has been about a lot more than him.

They could split the show two ways. Sporting Ted Lasso about him returning home to become the manager of Sporting Kansas City and AFC Richmond about everyone else.

Pretty much agree and it's been telegraphed for several episodes now what happens with Nate, Roy, Keeley and Rebecca/Sam. Rupert is probably getting sued into the ground by his wife and ex-assistant ( whom i assume he sexually harrassed). Probably half the episode will be Ted speeches amongst them one big heart to heart between Ted and Nate ( after Nate makes a whirlwind apology tour through the character ranks before taking on the final boss with Ted). I think they'll at least leave it open ended if Ted will reconcile with his ex-wife but they laid the groundwork.

I think Teds' story is done after season 3 and it was what Sudeikis always claimed it would be - a self contained story arc played out over 3 seasons. He and the rest of the cast never answered direct questions about a possible 4th season, at best they'd answer in a non committed way aka if the right idea comes long. I don't know if any show without Ted would work for longer than it has, i think it will be the perfect time to end the show on a high note and give every character some closure. Jaime's story has beautifully ended, Roy and Keeley are back together, Ted is going back to be with his son etc.

I mean i would love to see more of Roy, Higgins, the team and Rebecca/Sam but not if the show or the characters overstay their welcome and the stories become bland or fall into the trap of trying to outdo previous seasons with ever increasing and more ridiculous story lines ( since Grey's Anatomy has been mentioned - i'm looking at you. I held on as long as i could but soon left after Christina left the show and by that point the show has long ago passed into absurdity).

All considered i expect the (possible) show finale will be a sappy, sweet, tear inducing super happy end and i'm all for it and can't wait. This show was always about positivity, giving people second chances when they screw up no matter how bad ( loved Beard telling his backstory to Nate and how Ted helped him) and sometimes we need that huge pot of sugar to make us feel a bit better.

So were we supposed to infer something about Jamie and his mum, or did I just read too much into it.

I checked Wikoedipedia but couldn't find anything.

Nah, the whole hook of the show was that Ted was a fish out of water and how AFC Richmond had to handle Ted's style and mannerisms. Having Ted as a regular Football coach is a way less interesting situation.

At first I thought Roy was staring because they were being too affectionate, but after the attempted hug at the end, I think it's because Jamie's mom has got it going on.

I think a spin-off would be more likely than a season 4. I kind of like the idea of Roy and Keely moving to America for her job but not to some place like New York or LA. Maybe something like Minnesota. Roy takes a job coaching college soccer. Other characters might show up here and their with Ted being a clear choice and maybe Coach Beard if they are back in America, already.

Dude looked like he was about to motorboat his mom any second…

Yeah, that was strange to watch. A grown man resting on his moms' boobs like that  But apart from that strange/inappropriate scene i loved Jamie's story arc and especially the friendship between Roy and Jamie in season 3, that was one of the highlights this season.

I thought Season 3 was a rough season overall, but the last few episodes (probably starting with the Amsterdam episode) really felt like the Ted Lasso I know and love. I enjoyed the finale, but I wish Pheobe had made an appearance. I even got a little emotional at the end with Ted leaving and Rebecca's reaction.

EDIT

Apparently Pheobe was on Keeley's lap in a blink and you miss it scene. Didn't recognize her.

First to get the "negatives" out of the way - the episode didn't have much of a story flow in it, it was just an amalgamation of character moments to close off their respective stories. I would have expected a bit more effort and creativity for such a well written show.

That being said the parts in themselves were gold for the most part - Jaime and Roy fighting over Keeley and her kicking them both out showing her growth as a character, Rupert getting brutal but much needed justice getting laughed out of the stadium and poised to lose everything, Roy making huge progress himself becoming the successor to Ted and on his way to becoming a more rounded personality with some professional help, Dr. Fieldstone getting fully invested in Richmond and returning to the club and all the others.

About the only thing i didn't quite like is Rebecca meeting that Amsterdam man again ( was it him? I'm pretty sure) and the heart to heart between Nate and Ted was somewhat short and underwhelming - i expected something else i guess.

As expected there were many tearjerkers but for me the half time scene took ther crown - most players saving a bit of the Believe sign as a good luck charm and putting it back together was just so heartwarming.

So yeah - one of the most positive shows of the last years, probably decades, has ended and will most likely not continue in this form. However, if written right ( and i can't stress this enough) i believe there is enough for an AFC Richmond Spinoff show, they certainly have planted some possible leads with it.

So thanks for this show coming into our lives when the whole world struggled and needed some much needed relief. I don't think it was planned like this but it certainly was right place and the right time.

Oh - and Barbara is the most awesome!
